Default July pickups

99% of everything I post is vintage, but here is a rare modern one - a card I always wanted as a kid, but never had. Growing up when I started collecting, Donnie Baseball was “the” player people were collecting, and at least to my child’s eye was the 2nd coming of Mickey Mantle. (As I got older I became more aware of the differences between Mantle and Mattingly...) Topps and Fleer copies of his RC’s were always plentiful, it seemed - but this one, the Donruss version was the high-priced card that nobody seemed to have. Thankful in that regard it’s cheaper now than it was in say...1990. :-) Don isn’t a lock for the HOF by a long shot yet, but I still don’t think he would be totally out of place there. In any event, he will always be a reminder of my youth and the days when I first started collecting cards.

Default Awesome

I love Mattingly, and now you make me want to go dig through my rookies and find that card!

Nice. Test card? Don’t think I was even aware that existed. I got his ‘82 Topps Traded recently. One of the single nicest cards of the decade, IMO. Hard to go wrong w/ the Iron Man.

Love the test card Ripken. Those are all hand cut right?

I believe that they are, I know Fleer only issued 150-200 of these cards of certain players in sheet form.

Some of them mislabeled but the Ripken is the coolest one obviously. Nice pick up bro!
