Default September Pickups

I got what I think are a cool couple of pickups from Wheatland and LOTG. Both have to do with longtime MLB pitcher Al "General" Crowder, who is from Winston-Salem where I have lived for over 25 years. Crowder was born in Winston and after his career came back and was instrumental in developing our longstanding tradition of hosting a minor league franchise. He lived the rest of his life here, and is something of a local hero. I was lucky enough to pick up one of the cards he autographed for Uncle Jimmy (I mean, I don't if that's real but it's a good story) from Wheatland and a 1935 World Series game 4 ticket stub from LOTG where he pitched a complete game victory.

Default Pre-war Japanese Menkos

A few pre-war Japanese menkos:

1941 Hiroshi Ohshita when he played for Meiji University.

1930s Keio University Victory card.

1930s Meiji University card.

Nothing special, but I love the art work.

Thanks ... Tim

I love seeing everyone's pickups.

I was happy to pick up this W554 Waite Hoyte at a good price. That's my 4th of this set. Only 14 to go.

MEDWICK.jpg

This has always been my favorite card from the Diamond Stars set. Before I learned about the "Gas House Gang" or Medwick hitting for the Triple Crown in 37', something about this composition jumped out to me as a kid flipping through Classic Baseball Cards by Frank Slocum. Acquiring this example from the Uncle Jimmy Collection signed in era correct ink was a no brainer.

What a beautiful signature of Willie Kamm. So much nicer than the rushed chicken scratches today's players provide.

Knocked two of the key T206 HOF Portraits off the list (even if the shape is rough ! One September the other earlier this spring, but I was just able to get it from my office as they let me in to just pick a few things up.

Also knocked out the following Portraits:

A few FUN pick ups .....

Devore off ebay, and nice to add another tougher 460 EPDG. The rest from my buddy Luke. Sov.150 Donohue has been on my want list for a looooooong time, as well as a "back" for Barry (let alone such a low pop.). That, and two pretty darn sharp OMs, to boot !!!

Fun, fun, Scott

Great pick ups, all. I love the rare backs, especially the t215-2, and both the M101-3 and 54 Aaron are very pretty for the grade. I “won” these in Heritage the other night.

Ryan, really love the Novelty, those and the related PC796 are really growing on me!

Thanks for showing the great V89 Patterson of Bancroft. The set has some great, not found in other set photos, and the pose and angle of the shot on this one is just plain interesting to look at. And the set is so uncommon, this is the first time I remember seeing the Bancroft.

Those t 207s were nice in Heritage. I was bidding on several and got the Marquard. Didn’t arrive yet.... these seem cheap relative to what is going on out there price wise!

I won most of the set of 48 Bowmans in Wheatland. The photo quality on these is just outstanding and better in person. Couldn’t upload the Musial for some reason but it was the best photo i have seen on one. Only got a 5 but way better than that, had a rough cut on bottom i guess.

Just got these in the mail today. The Birmingham has tape on the top and bottom borders and looks like it is turning the borders green.

I'm new to collecting and targeting Senators and HOFers, so this was an important piece to the puzzle. Obviously on the low end of the grading scale but really happy with the eye appeal.

Never thought I'd own a green T206 Cobb because I was very happy with the PSA 4.5 "bat off" Cobb I bought at the Baltimore National in 2012. But when the owner of my favorite shop (virtually) dangled it in front of me last month, I became transfixed and had to have it. Even though it's nearly miscut high, the crease-free image, registration and color are beautiful to me. A card I'll be proud to own for a long time to come.

Picked up this autographed cabinet photo of player/manager and T206 subject Jimmy Burke.

Photo was taken during Spring Training 1911 at Hot Springs and was signed "To My Pal Connie". Burke played for Milwaukee under Connie Mack in 1900 so this may have once belonged to "The Tall Tactician" himself.

Not a HOFer (or even close), but I'm glad to finally pick up an m101-6 Ehmke to go with the matching photo embossed with Mendelsohn's name.
