Jamie, I always love seeing that card. Besides being insanely rare, I truly appreciate it's dead-on registration; creating incredible clarity in his face/eyes.

Default So Jamie,

your ty cobb back isn't even in your top seven scarcest red cobb cards, is it?

t206 broadleaf 460- 1 of 2 known
t206 drum- 1 of 2 known
t213-3 factory 8 op- 1 of 2 known
t215- 1 of 2 known
t206 sovereign 460- 1 of about 10 (?) known
t206 lenox- 1 of about 12 known
t206 carolina brights- 1 of about 14 known

that is truly some rarified air!

Jamie

Your VICTORY Cobb is sensational......and, " maddening " is in the past, this card stays with you

My favorite Cobb for several reasons is the elusive SOVEREIGN 460.

Default Cobb, not Cobb

My best Cobb and my not Cobb. I posted this in the "Let's see some postcards" thread but I thought it would be funny to show it here again (although the joke was one me). I bought this years ago because the seller was sure Cobb was fifth from the left (to be fair, so was I) and I paid for it as if it was him (this was well before ease of online research). Recently I found a clipping of the same photo in the Detroit Free Press from May 8, 1910 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/4581...it-free-press/. The McGraw Tigers were a local independent team but "Cobb" is actually "Anderson, catcher".

Hey Mark!... i think you mean BL460.. a red cobb with a BL350 back has not been confirmed... but yes there are 2 BL460s.... the factory 8 OP i believe to be a 1 of 1.. i have not seen a second.. the other graded examples are the bat-off pose..... There are 4 drums im aware of.. and i think there might be less then 10 Sov 460s.. So while the cobb back is not the rarest.. it is still certainly one of the most desired!.... hope all is well my friend. Happy new Year

A little story about that card:
Some 20 years ago I bought a common player Victory on eBay for a couple hundred. When the seller & I communicated afterward he said he had “a bunch” of Victories. Turned out to be 17 of them including Johnson (pitching), with back damage, and the Cobb you now have. I bought all 17 for $5k, they were ungraded and the seller lived in New Orleans! I overnighted a cashier’s check. When the seller shipped them to me the USPS lost them for 2 weeks! When I finally got them I took them to the next Chicago Sun Times show to have them graded and Pete Calderon was at the SGC booth & he was blown away by the group. I had sold Pete an e107 Cy Young not long before that (thru eBay as well) but it was our 1st time meeting face to face. I remember picking up the cards a day or 2 later and I couldn’t believe the Cobb only got a 2, besides the paper rub on upper right border it’s a very strong card! Not long after that Pete went on to work at Mastronet and I flipped the group of Victories to Terry Knouse (my ex wife wanted new windows for our house! Doh!). Not long after that I got divorced and the house with the new windows was sold. Too funny yet so sad!

Great great card! Much nicer than the other SGC 2 that sold in REA some years later.

Hi Jerry, I don't remember who the dealer was or if he was an actual dealer. What I do remember was the card he originally listed (Ames) and the group I got from him had the Cobb, Johnson (pitching w. back damage), Zack Wheat, & a few other minor HOFers and the fact that he lived in New Orleans and Victories were from Louisiana.

Jamie - I think we can trace the full provenance of the card now from Aaron's acquisition all the way to you.

Great cards in this thread and this Victory is one of, if not the, nicest of all.

Here is another Cobby. Love the low grade from the "opinionators."

Exactly what you see on the screen is the way it is in hand. There is some very minor surface wrinkling/crackling on the front, on both sides of his head. Personally I think it could be a full grade higher.....but I own it and all that.

Not my fave Cobby here but one of my latest ones and from our BST. Big top border with full name at bottom.

This red Cobb with a PIEDMONT #42 back is a real beauty....however, it is not a real T206. But, it sure is a darn good reprint.

And, here are some of the real Cobb's in my collection......my favorite Cobb card is this AMERICAN BEAUTY........

I have re-homed all of my Cobbs - all since the virus hit and almost all on BST...haven't seen any of them being shown by their new owners so I'll do the honors for the last time:

Great thread. I am very partial to this one:

I don't know why; I have 'better' Cobbs. I just happen to like it a lot.

I got this one recently:

Only Cobb I recall getting since the original post I made.

That could be it...

Come to think of it, I think I got this one at about the same time. I had a strip card phase about 15 years ago...

I’m fairly new to Net54 and am learning so much. This is the card that got me back into vintage baseball a few years ago.
