Default Replacing the Ryan rookie

Got around to replacing the Nolan Ryan rookie card....the tale of PSA and damage woe is posted elsewhere on the forum. Happy to have a proper Ryan/Koosman (as opposed to the MB one I previously had and the subject of the aforementioned adventure) and a pretty nice one to boot back in my post-war rookie collection.

KingFisk...

Was the MB Ryan RC the card damaged by PSA at the National? If so...what damage happened and did PSA reimburse you??

Some great cards being posted. Love the 53 bowman Musial and Clyde I agree with you on the Tommy Byrne card.

Landed this 53 Mantle and will hope to upgrade some day but this one will have to work for now. I have seen much worse looking PSA 1's for this card.

Gorgeous cards across the board this month. Ted Williams, Berra, Mantle, those sharp leader cards that look mint. That 53 Mantle is fantastic. (I am doing a Mantle set of all beauties just like that one; so hard to find that type of card.) Same goes for that 52B Musial. And the wrappers are so cool. Makes me wanna get them all framed for a wall, would really pop to the eye. That Dark Cap Matty is a beauty. If it was the one on ebay recently I remember thinking how strong it was.

Hey, no, it wasn't damaged at the National. It was damaged at their home office. I dropped it off at a public day in NJ. If you want to read the whole story, I posted it on the main pre WWII board here under the title "My PSA Damage Tale" a few months back. They eventually made me whole but it took awhile.

Happy to win this one:

These AO cards are really difficult to find without damage from the glue that held the packets together and without creasing from when the packets were opened. I missed an 8 Aaron a while ago and was very happy to find a 6 at a fraction of the 8 price.

After reading the research here I also decided to add this to my collection:

Love that AO Hank!

BP copied that exact setup in 1990 for football. I collect Andre Tippett and he was one of the winning cards, so I've had a hard time tracking his cards down.

Beautiful card, Ray.

Two catchers from the Hill in St Louis and the Cardinals signed the other guy :-(

Great looking Yogi Ray. I can see why it was calling you.
That is a sweet Aaon AO. I have never seen one before. Thanks for posting.

Just received this Willie today. It was calling me as I am closing in on my run of Willie Mays Topps cards.

JB-- there are 2 versions of that card. The one you posted and one where there is a "white band" on his forearm. The latter is less common but not scarce

I was outbid on that card! Nice pickup.

Al, I have been looking for a presentable mid-grade example, and the "white band" always bugged me. Never knew that it was a variation ....

nice Yogi, Ray!

Al, thanks for the information on the variation. I actually do have that variation and thought it was a flaw. Love these boards. Always learning something new.
Here is the variation.

Default Variants

I think most would say it is just a print defect rather than a true variation ( inentional change in card), although it is virtually impossible to tell if any particular print flaw was intentionally addressed. But there is no doubt there are two "versions" of the card, and the fact it is Mays makes it more interesting...to me anyway

Amazing Mays all a round . I've had my eye on that yogi as it's more appealing
Then his rookie .

That 54 Mays is outstanding - beautiful card all around. I picked up a couple of new cards this week that surprisingly did not have the name Mantle in them

Man, you guys don't quite with the outstanding pick ups! Aaron, Musial, Mantle, Mays, J. Robby, Berra (both) and Brett are all FANTASTIC!! Congrats to all.

I've been feeling a little nostalgic lately so I've been picking up some childhood favorites. Been very satisfying indeed.

Love the Aaron AO and Berra.

Working on a nice 67 set. Got the Seaver graded back, bought the Mantle. 61 Mantle had graded also. Love the 71 Clemente card...one of my favorites.

KendallCat,

The Brett rookie is no joke. Finding a 75 mini with that centering is not easy. The Jordan speaks for itself. Congrats on landing two great cards.

Exhibitman,

That Koufax strikes out 15 is an epic in action card. Love everything about the card. The crowd in background, full stride with ball almost ready for release makes you feel like you are watching the game. Some nice additions.

DeanH3,

I am with you with the nostalgia of those years. 1977-79 cards are fun to collect. I just started working on the on those 3 sets. Great looking Carter card.

Feels like forever since I made a pickup. Here's a 1980 Laughlin 300/400/500 of my favorite player.

Default 1967 Topps goodness

Decided a while back to try an add the key RC's in the '67 Topps set to a high-end NM/MT set that I picked up 2 years ago. Picked up the Seaver a couple months ago in a great deal with a fellow board member, but the Carew arrived today from an Ebay dogfight/auction.

I have to say I was blown away. Holding it in-hand, I genuinely believe it's undergraded. Centering on the Carew is usually horrific, but this is pretty darn good...

Jason - beautiful pickup on the Carew rookie. Corners and centering are extremely strong and hard to come by.

Just posted these on the main-page auction grabs.
After a rough several months on end not buying...I finally was able to replace 2 key cards to my RC collection that went empty.

A couple new additions, one of which was purchased back in mid October. (E-Bay claim filed but card arrived Friday) and another one purchased late October but just scanned now. (Both raw)
