Default 1948 Leaf Printing Inconsistencies?

I know this technically isn't prewar, but this question is so esoteric I figured I'd have better luck here. Hope that's okay...

Everyone knows there are all sorts of printing inconsistencies with the '48 Leaf set, but I haven't found much concrete information on the subject. From my experience there are two main printing types. The first appears to be more common, and contains reds, blacks, dark blues, etc. The second is much more vibrant, with red ink replaced with magenta, bright blue colors, etc. Here are three Dimaggios that illustrate the point:

First one (normal, with red name, muted green background and black hat)

Second one (red name, vibrant green background, bright blue hat)

Third one (magenta name, vibrant green background, bright blue hat)

Anyway, I've been disappointed by the lack of information on the subject. Does anyone have any information regarding the possible types, relative rarity, etc.? I personally find the vibrant ones (magentas, bright blues) to be really attractive looking and quite unusual...
