1949 NY Yankees World Championship Award Pendant
1949 NY Yankees World Championship Award Pendant
Rare and dazzling L. G. Balfour piece of championship jewelry. It dates to an era when it was simply too ostentatious for a man to display more than one ring on his hand - a problem few clubs other than the Yankees would face. Yankee players and execs were offered numerous options to reward pennants and World Championships if they already owned a World Series ring, (and most did). They could opt for bar sets, diamond earrings, jeweled compacts, etc. - even shotguns. And in 1949, pendants. Offered is a glittering specimen from that mighty Bronx Bombers' campaign of '49, which was underscored by a five-game drubbing of the Dodgers. Its half-dollar size gold medallion features the classic top hat logo with red, white and blue accents provided by a genuine ruby, a single-cut diamond and a sapphire. In crisp relief, its surface announces "World Champions" and "1949." It's survived 56 years in near-perfect original condition, with little or no wear evident. This is a classy piece with Yankees cache, and quite obviously, a wonderful addition to any collection.
