Default Early Navy Pennant - Age?

I'm not really a pennant guy but I do collect old military items so couldn't pass this up when I saw it in an antique store. It's pretty big, approximately 33" end to end. I looked on eBay but didn't find any that appeared to be as old as this one. Is it from the 1920s?

I'm considering selling it but the more I look at it, the more I like it!

Ben, that is a sweet pennant! I was thinking as early as 1910s, but the pennant experts may know better. Has some similarities to this pennant being sold retail online. (the NYT prices are very very HIGH!!)

Being from the Annapolis area I have a number of different Navy pennants dating back to the 1930's and I believe that this pennant pre dates any of mine. My guess would be 1920's.

Thanks, Joe! The one you provided a link to looks a bit older but not much. Obviously overpriced given the source but perhaps mine is worth a few hundred?

I think so too, Bob. Do you have photos of your pennants? Would love to see them if you do.

I believe the pennant to be from the late 30's to 1940's. The style, make up, size, etc. Earlier pennants would generally be smaller or much larger than that and would have different graphics. The colors used are also a sign to me. If you are a military collector, you know how much stuff was produced around WWII time. That is when I believe this is from. Hope this helps. Jason

I just saw the tape measure you had laid out. It appears it is closer to 34-36 inches than 24 as you described. This would put the date closer to the 1920's. Those generally have 3 tassels in the left piping. Generally you don't see the brighter colors like that on the earlier pennants.

Whoops - good catch, Jason! It measures approximately 33"-34", not 24 as I had stated.

I may buy this and burn it in the early hours of Dec 12 as a offering to the football gods for Army to break this losing streak. It's not like Navy is really even that good this year

If I get $250 for something, I say "do with it whatever you want!"
