A pair of 1912 Jim Thorpe vintage original TYPE I photographs taken by Legendary Lensmen Paul Thompson & George Grantham Bain. Obviously, Thompson & Bain were standing very close to each other when they snapped these incredible images just a split second apart.

Not much sports action in this, but I think it exemplifies hockey in the 1920s. A shot of the Saskatoon Shieks travelling on the Canadian prairies. From ex-Ranger Andy Aitkenhead's estate

edited to add: and it goes with this sweater I have

True "Cagers" back in the day when they actually played the game inside a fenced-in court with no out-of-bounds:

Great card of a great fighter — but he wasn't from Portland.

"Mysterious" Billy Smith, who was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame this past June, was a Canadian from Little River, Nova Scotia, and won the first officially recognized world welterweight championship on April 17, 1893. Towards the end of his career he moved to the West Coast, opening a hotel and Turkish bath in Yakima, Washington, and then a saloon in Portland, where he died on Oct. 15, 1937.

About 98% of what I collect is baseball but of the remaining these three items would be my favorites.

"To a good fighter from a lucky one."
8x10 photo

Duke Kahanamoku postcard, more often seen as b&w. Don't worry, Anthony; it's in the Will.

Picked this up for a loonie in a Gastown junque shop back in the '70's. It is coveted by a certain Saskatoonian (Saskatoonite?, Saskatoonarooni?) who frequents this board. Don't worry, brah; it's in the Will (I'll throw in the license plate, too).

David, Awesome postcard. It really shows the "porthole" Paoa used to check for sealife and shallow hazards. How do I get in that will?

Great idea for a painting!

You're obviously correct and I knew about some of the above (nice additional info though.) I guess "from Portland" can have different meanings.

Here's one for Dan!

That good looking fellow pictured on the sign is my uncle, who broadcast Nebraska football games on radio from 1951 to 1992. At 14, his American Legion baseball team was sent from Oklahoma to see the third, fourth and fifth games of the 1937 World Series at the Polo Grounds, and Carl Hubbell took the team into the Giants locker room where they were given autographs by all the players. As a student after serving in the war, he broadcast sports events at the University of Oklahoma. He moved to Omaha in 1951 to join WOW radio and WOW-TV. An avid fan of all sports, he covered Creighton basketball, Omaha Cardinals baseball, high school sports, Husker basketball, baseball and football in addition to his nightly duties as television sportscaster. Uncle Jack also was the Public Address Announcer at the College World Series in Omaha from 1963 to 2000, and was a television fixture in Omaha for many years. He found time to give me an autographed Husker team football in 1965 and let me sit beside him as he broadcast the 1967 Big 8 Holiday Basketball tournament in Kansas City. He's now 86 and still pulling for the Big Red. Finding this sign in an antique shop was a real thrill for me!

As I live in Vancouver, no need to wear the sweater as we wear shorts and T-shirts in the winter, and leave the snow and cold to the rest of Canada

The Sheiks' items particularly appeal to me, as I'm originally from Saskatoon

Default This ought to be fun!

Here are some boxing items I like:

Still from the motion picture "The Prizefighter and the Lady" showing (L-R) Jess Willard, Max Baer, director of the film, Jim Jeffries, Jack Dempsey and Primo Carnera.

Advertising poster for sheet music for a Jim Jeffries-inspired song.

Promotional poster for my cousin, seeking a shot at the title.

Photograph of my cousin and Sammy Mandell signing for a title fight, Jack Dempsey as promoter. The fight never happened, I don't know why.

Matchbook covers from restaurants owned in NYC by Abe Attell and Jim Braddock

Default "The Grand Slam"

Vintage original TYPE I photograph showing Bobby Jones as he just won the 1930 U.S. Amateur and completes his quest for the Grand Slam of Golf. Also shown as a companion piece to the photograph, is a volunteer badge from the 2005 U.S. Amateur which was held at Merion Golf Club. The same course that Jones won at some seventy five years prior.

Default Cassius Clay vs. Sonny Liston

Type 1 Clay vs Liston II

I bought this in legendary and believe it to be a Type 1 as it has the UPI stamp associated to the era. However, UPI is tricky so we shall see when I get it and see the paper..finger's crossed. In anycase, ICONIC and worth a shot..no pun of course.
Things changed a llittle since teh two signatures below....

Joe Namath and the New York Jets make football history.
SB III program autographed by Namath and Weeb Ewbank.
1968 AFL Championship Program which I paid 75 cents for at Shea Stadium. I paid $10 for my ticket, thanks to a guy who had one extra ticket and did not want to scalp his 40 yard line field level ticket. My friends thought I was foolish to try to get in but I did .

Nice frame job on those programs.

The '59 sugar must of been a hell of a game, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think LSU scored early on a kick return(?) Then both teams scoreless the rest of the way.

Nope, I was wrong, Billy Cannon TD pass after CU fumbled on their own 11 in the 3rd qtr.

Type 1 Bain photo of a VERY YOUNG Jim Thorpe

A 1940's article explaining Knute's playing encounter with the "Big Indian". Just an AWESOME story...
