Atlanta Baves ticket

Does anyone know how to date Atlanta Braves tickets? The seller claims that this ticket is from the game Hank Aaron hit his 715th HR but I don't think it is. There doesn't seem to be a date, just Game 1 with a ticket price of $2.00 (Hard to imagine getting to see MLB and Hank Aaron for $2).

Prior to tickets being considered essential collectibles, many stadium's "day of" tickets and/or season tickets would only have a designated number on them and not the specific date. "Game 1" or "Game 77" etc.

Hank Aaron hit 715 on April 8, 1974, which was the Braves home opener that year, hence "Game 1" of their home tickets.

In the case of the mid-70s Braves, it does look like they used "Game" designations on a few of their tickets for the Hank Aaron 715th game, specifically for upper level general admission and dugout level.

Since the upper level G.A. was the nosebleeds, $2 was the going rate, and it looks like children could buy them for $1.

The long-time experts on here could maybe answer more definitively, but I don't see that exact style of ticket anywhere (with two Braves heads) on search. Without the exact year printed, which some of the dugout level tickets do have, it's hard to know for sure if this was Game 1 from 1974, or from similar years with this ticket style... 1973? 1975? etc.

Hi Edward,
Although this ticket COULD be from Hank Aaron's 715th HR, there is no way to know for sure because the Braves used the similar ticket stock for several years surrounding this game.

I would tell you as a ticket collector of over 40 years that there is no shortage of fully dated tickets to Hammerin' Hanks 715th career HR.
So I suppose, I would merely ask you the question that begs to be asked:
Why buy this one with no date and several staple holes that detract, when so many other examples of this ticket exist without either of these issues?

As a matter of course, I have always found it to be a great strategy to buy quality unless an item is so scarce that finding any example may be your only option.
Not only will you enjoy it more as a collector now, but it will offer a better exit strategy should you ever need to resell it if your collecting focus changes down the line.

My question is, why does it look like 2 different staples?

That is one thing I wondered about, one staple looks older than the other. Is this program unique to this game or did they use it for multiple games? Is the program by itself worth anything?

It would worry me that someone had those tickets and couldn't definitively tie them to that game so bought a program and stapled them, voila instant provenance. Oh maybe I'm paranoid lol

Here's an Atlanta Braves ticket I came across in n estate sale. I looked up the date and it's the date that Chipper Jones hit his 418th hr.

The same program would have been sold during the whole series with the Dodgers so no way of saying the program is specific to the game other than the writing on the front.

You could check if it was scored, but again, that could be done after the fact. There could be 10,000 programs from that series, there could be 100,000 programs from that series.

I know I was able to purchase a program directly from the Braves well after the fact from the PR dept (along with a secretarial signature of Aaron on the cover).

I think the different staples are because there are 3 stubs stapled together. Then at some point stapled to the program, therefore two different staples.

That being said, I have seen unused tickets from the Braves that were listed as game 1, 2, 3, etc. I have never seen ones numbered in double digits so I am dubious that they did that for whole seasons. I think possibly they were emergency tickets? But I have seen ticket #1 attributed to Aaron's 715th. Its hard to say for certain either way though.

I noticed the missing staple but staples are sometimes removed. Rusty staples are a blight on paper collectibles.

I've looked around but can't find any real matches for these tickets, which seems a bit odd. It seems where the second Indian head is there should be a logo for the visiting team.
