Wow, love the detail in his face on this card.. still a lot of time left, I wonder where this one will end up... good luck if the bidder is a board member!!! I dream of having the resources to get in on some of these!!!

Yep I have been watching it as well. Right now it is at 105K which is 125K after buyers premium, the exact same as the wagner sold for in the last auction.

That SGC 30 is a stunning card that presents much nicer than the technical grade.

The image on that card is amazing.

It's unfortunate that this portrait image does not appear in another (more affordable) set. But then, I guess if it did, that would take away from some of the mystique of this awesome card and issue.

Yes.

Not nearly as prevalent as his Uniform version.

Since the images for the E107 and W600 Matty were just brought up, I figured that I'd link a discussion comparing the two from a few years back.

The W600 Street Clothes Mathewson is several times tougher than the uniform cabinet and was not issued for as long, as it was the earlier version. Total pop report for SGC and PSA is 4. One would assume several others exist in raw collections as well, however none that I am aware of(which does not mean much . The E107 Mathewson has an SGC pop of 4 and apparently none in PSA. I am aware of at least 3 more raw ones, with others undoubtedly existing as well. For all practical purposes the pop's are probably about the same.

As to popularity the card clearly is more desirable in the eyes of the bidders, none of which are probably E107 set collectors as there are less than a handful of those and unless they are upgrading, do not need the Mathewson card. There are probably well healed collectors/investors that would find this a blue chip item to add. Ditto with the W600 Street Clothes Matty, very few, if any "set collectors" yet many folks who would like to add it to their holdings.

Whoa. Very cool -- I'd never seen the street clothes version of that cabinet before. Thanks for the info, Greg (and the link, Jake) (and the previous discussion link, Brian).
