Default need to get an eBay auction pulled ASAP

Posted By: Neal Kane

Even though I bought a 33 Goudey Ruth recently, I still search for them. Now I am looking for a red one. Probably a batting pose after that ...

Anyway, this seller has a green Ruth available - and the scan shows the card I just won two weeks ago! He started the auction a few days ago, and I emailed him to ask about the card. Of course no response, but I also let eBay know of the situation. Of course the auction is still running.

His feedback is high based on mostly private auctions. He is also the self proclaimed "paperstock cut out" master on eBay. I never get involved with scams, but this one is somewhat personal so I am concerned for the winner of this auction - he/she is not going to be getting the card that is featured in the listing.

I am sure that no one has ever dealt with this guy, but is there anything else I should be doing?

Here is the auction

just be careful, if your transaction went through okay at least that is set. Wait for the winning bidder’s info to come up after the auction ends and then email the winner. First, I would be concerned just by some of the other items the ebayer has, poor scans and 1952 Bowman Mantle PSA 8? you cannot read the PSA number how many times did they sell that card you think. Always look at the quality of the scans and descriptions, sure the ebayer has some good feedback and maybe be okay. Maybe the auction was reset with a different Ruth who really knows?

Did you buy the card via eBay? If so, is the scan of the current auction the same as the scan used when you bought?

"Wait for the winning bidder’s info to come up after the auction ends and then email the winner"

The auction appears to have Private ID so you
cannot contact a high bidder nor the winning
bidder since the info is not revealed.

If you really want to play good Samaratin you could win the auction and then refuse to pay for it! Emailing ebay is useless but try calling them and forcing the person on the phone to pay attention.

Did you receive the card from the seller and is this the same seller you bought the card from? If it's not the same seller and you have the card I wouldn't worry about it...there are a ton of sellers on eBay that steal pics and put them in there listings.

Doesn't necassarily make it right, does it? I wouldn't be too happy if I bid on a card like a '33 Goudey Ruth and the card I recieved didn't match the scans in the auction. I bet this seller is one of the guys that used to take penny cards of superstars and put them in sparkly screwdowns and plaques and sell them for ten bucks a pop at mall shows back in the 90's. Nice to see that people like this can still get a gig.

Never bid up a fake auction assuring you win it. If a real bidder is 2nd and you refuse to pay, the seller will give the real bidder a second chance offer. Now, not only was he scammed and didn't know better, you cost him much more money than it would have if you didn't put in your bid. There are better ways to deal with a scammer.

In Rememberance of James W. Brennan Sr. 1924-1982. Dad, thanks for everything you did for me.

But I have seen sellers use the same images of cards in different auctions. Is it possible the guy has 2 of these and just did one image - maybe - not likely in this world but common in modern cards. I have had it happen in modern a few times - I usually email them and they change images. I think the biggest reason for alarm is no contact - the guy has almost 8000 feedbacks so its suprising to me he wouldn't communicate with you. Good luck...email him again.

The card I won is in my possession, and I love the card - a nice, solid PSA 4. I bought it from another seller with fantastic feedback. His feedback can also be viewed, as none of it was private. I did talk to an eBay rep on the phone yesterday, and he said that it looks like a fraudulent listing (duh), but was not sure if they would take it down. That seems kind of disturbing to me.

All this guy really has to do is ship a rock with delivery confirmation and insurance to the buyer. If PayPal sees that, they won't do anything ... or so I am told.

This is also the first time I have ever played eBay cop. Like I said in my original post, this one is somewhat personal.

This is not the same seller that Neal got his card from.
And even if it was and the guy had multiple Ruth's in the
same grade he should show the bidders the exact card they
are bidding on, not a similar one.
Especially when this card in this grade tops $2K.
