Finally picked up a Minneapolis Old Judge, and a cool 1907 real photo postcard from my dads hometown...

Thanks Barry!

A group of M101-4s with Everybody's backs. The interesting news is that there are four different backs, two with thick printing(different apostrophes) and two with thin printing(notice the "R").

I've been out-sniped for about 8 months trying to acquire a reasonable T202 Cy Young. I can hardly wait for it to come in the mail.

I don't think so. There was some talk as I have a great grandfather named James Murray but the family always refered to him as "crazy James" and I'd like to think Red wasn't that.

....... well, Abe's kinda' baseball.......

According to Adam W.'s boxing card book, the right-hand captioned Attell and Moran are the rarer variety (don't own the correspnding left-handers,..... yet ).

1959 Esslinger Beer Home Run Derby

This variation moved the players name and team to the top and put an ad for the beer company at the bottom.

Thank you, Joe.

I was even happier when I saw it in person than when the auction ended. That's a fairly tough one off the want list.

Just picked these (original collection) up tonight. 660 plus cards, all t206, t205 and t210s. It's sort of freakin me out. Here are some of the highlights.

Congrats, Martin!

Did you get to meet the grandfather? In the actual attic?

Seriously, tell us how you happened across these. Is there a good story?

Martin,
Those are some beautiful T206's. Congratulations! How does one even go about picking up so many of these cards at one time?! Yes, please share with us the story behind this.

Thanks! These were listed on Ebay last week as "vintage baseball cards." I think they were in the correct category. I happen to live within an a couple of hours of the seller so I emailed them last week and asked if I could view them. We met at their bank and I made an offer for the cards which was accepted after a few days. I think it helped that they had been dealing with several dealers and were sort of turned off by a few of them that were overly aggressive (you probably know who I'm talking about). The lot was inherited by the seller, who to his credit, did a lot of research on tobacco cards and was somewhat familiar with what he had. The original collector died years ago and his widow left these cards to the seller in her estate.
I think the seller knows a little more about the gentleman who collected them and I hope to find out more about how they were collected next week. It is odd that all the cards are Piedmont except for a couple of Sweet Caporals. It is also odd that there are many dupes of some cards especially in the T205s. Also there are a bunch of series 8 T210s.

So - you got them for less then the $50,000 they were asking? I threw them an offer of $6k, not knowing what was in the lot.

I think they were satisfied with the price they got for the cards. They are probably more satisfied than I was with the price I paid, but, I think everyone was happy. It is always a great deal when everyone is happy and you make a couple of new friends.

This one just came in the mail today. It looks better in person. IMO, the player in the center looks very much like a young Johnny Evers. I don't think the date of the photo(early 1900's?) matches with the age Evers would be not to mention the catcher's mit so it's highly unlikely but still...
