Default 1989 Fleer Pack w/ Bill Ripken Back Showing

Is there a way to tell which one is in the pack without opening it? Any pack markings I can look for?

Yes and no but way more no.

Some of the black box cards from the full 132 count Bill Ripken sheet have a tell on the back.

If you can see the PRINTED IN U.S.A. on the bottom right corner. On some of the cards from the full sheet it is not in the exact same place it is on all the other cards. Basically the E is not in the white line.

I used to open tons of these, and I sort of remember the alignment of the front of the pack was loosely associated with which card I pulled.
If I recall correctly, the crown on the front was out of alignment with the red stripe.

I never kept track closely enough to see if it was a legit thing or not, but I remember that it happened enough to know that it was interesting.

Do you remember what variation was associated with the crown being out of alignment? I also opened a ton of wax packs but never paid attention to the wrappers.

I want to say that I got more rare variations in the out of alignment ones, and more black box ones in the aligned ones, but I haven't thought of it in a long time, and I didn't keep notes at the time.

I thought you got your rare versions from me or Jerry.

I also wish I would have kept records on all the things I have learned in the hobby. I have forgotten so much good info.

I got my most rare versions from you and Jerry; I got more rare versions out of the misaligned packs (I think), and less rare versions out of other packs.

I might have my notes somewhere here in the baseball room. But finding them would be an adventure all by itself, and no one has time for that now.
