Maybe someone can answer this for me. The last time I purchased the Beckett annual Baseball book was in 1994. I always get The Standard Catalog of Baseball cards. But I just picked up the 2008 Beckett Annual and I noticed that there are some sets they have taken out. I know that there are so many new sets out there today but why would they not have the 1951 Topps Current All-Stars and the Connie Mack All-Stars in there? Also why do they not list error cards like the 1914 Cracker Jack BRESNAHAN NO NUMBER  on back.

Hi Robert,

I'm in the Grading department, but from 1997-1999 I was in the Pricing department. Let me ask you - did you buy the big baseball book, or did you buy the Beckett Almanac? The Almanac is the one you want - it is nearly 1500 pages and the most comprehensive. The most recent edition is 2007 (#12), and the Connie Mack and Current All Stars are listed on page 927. We try to time the new editions to come out around the National, so I would expect the 2008 Almanac to be ready around that time. We also offer online price guide subscriptions that include everything we catalog (www.beckett.com/priceguides).

I'm not sure on the Cracker Jack Bresnahan error, but will forward it to the Baseball Pricing team to consider.

Thanks!
Mark Anderson

Hi Mark, I got the one with A-Rod on the front. Well the name on the front is Beckett Baseball Price Guide and it it is pricing over 730,000 cards you would think it should be in there. From now on I will stick with SCD like everyone else. And do you think they can make the print a little smaller I think it is to big. Rob

Yes, I can understand your confusion. The "Beckett Baseball Price Guide" does indeed focus more on modern cards, while the Almanac is the most comprehensive (and twice the size), and our best vintage resource.

I will privately email you the pricing on the 1951 Topps All-Stars sets.

Grant Sandground, who oversees the Graded Card Investor magazine, was aware of the Bresnahan NNO card and had already been gathering pricing data on it. It should be added to the new Almanac as well as the next issue of Graded Card Investor.

Mark, How come the Beckett guides will have something one year and not the next. In the 1980's and early 90's there were Brewers team issued that were listed and now they're not. No mention of them anymore. I would have to look up the specific years for you.

I guess I bought the wrong book. Well not surprising they have so many. What they should have done was include a magnifying glass so we can read it. Now I remember why I stopped buying Beckett 's. Even back when they had the Vintage mag out it started out good and then started to drop sets until they stopped printing the mag altogether. I will stick with SCD. Rob
