Default Tuesday Trivia: Home Runs by Handedness

Most people know that Hank Aaron has the most Home Runs ever by someone who bats right and throws right, and Barry Bonds the most Home Runs by someone that bats left and throws left.

Q: Who has the most home runs by someone that:
1) Batted Left and threw Right?
2) Batted Both, threw Right?
3) Batted Right, threw Left?
4) Batted Both, threw Left?

2 has to be Mantle. 1, Williams?

Mantle indeed has the most Home Runs of a switch hitter that threw right with 536. The only other switch hitter that threw right with over 500 Home Runs was Eddie Murray at 504.

Ted Williams has the second most Home Runs for a player that batted left and threw right. A great guess.

Oh OK I know who it is but I'll let someone else get it, always forget about him lol.

The others, no clue. 3 is going to be obscure is my guess.

For #3 I nominate Rickey Henderson

For #4 I nominate Lance Berkman.

Wow Frank, you got the hardest ones.

Rickey Henderson has the most Home Runs of any that batted Right and threw Left at 297.

Lance Berkman has the most Home Runs of any switch hitter that threw Left at 366.

Well done!

Only one left is the player with most Home Runs that batted Left and threw Right.

Unless I'm missing someone, I think the missing individual is Jim Thome.

You are correct. Jim Thome's 612 career Home Runs is the most for any player than batted Left and thew Right.

Well done everyone.

A few facts about the most obscure answer Lance Berkman.

1) Lance Berkman is 2nd only to Mickey Mantle for switch hitters in career slugging (.537), OPS (.943) and OPS+ (144).

2) His career OPS ranks in the top 30, just behind Ty Cobb and Dan Brouthers and just ahead of Willie Mays and Shoeless Joe Jackson.

3) His career On Base % of .406 ranks in the top 50 all-time.

4) Was a member of the Astros' killer B's along with Bagwell and Biggio.

5) His nicknames were "Fat Elvis" and "Big Puma"

6) Starred in College at Rice University: his 2.12 RBIs per game in 1997 as a Junior is still the most in College Baseball History. His 43 Home Runs in '97 is 3rd most ever for a season, and his.65 Home Runs per game is the 4th most ever for a season. His 109 Runs (1.73 Runs per game) rank in the top 10 ever for a season. His 263 Total Bases in '97 is the 4th most ever in a season, and his Slugging % of 1.031 in '97 ranks 8th best for a season.

7) A devout Christian and philanthropist, he was nominated for the Roberto Clemente award in 2008. In 2010 Lance and his wife Cara donated over $2 million to The Lord’s Fund, a foundation they established. It placed them seventh on Forbes magazine’s 2012 list of most generous celebrities
