Default new acquisition - tintypes from machines?

Posted By: runscott

This folds in half, with the tin-type inside. I've never seen one of these, but I'm guessing you put money in a machine, picked a "body" (this guy picked the New York baseball player - note "New York" is backwards), then your tiny tintype popped out and you put it in the frame and added the piece of paper backing. Totally a guess - any ideas?

Haven't seen that one before, Scott.

By the turn of the century, the tintype was an out of date process and was rarely if ever used for formal family portraits and stuff. The tintype was typically delegated to booths carnivals, boardwalks, Coney Island and similar touristy places.
