Default Full bordered m101-6s

M101-6 Mendelsohns are fairly scarce--ask anyone who collects them. I have been lucky to have seen more than a hundred or two over the years, and have not seen them with anything more than a slight stripe of a border on one edge or end, and very rarely one that has both a side and end stripe. Now on ebay is an m101-6 with three large borders and a fourth smaller, and the seller has sold two similar in the past couple days. Has anyone else seen these cards with borders?

I have no qualms with the seller, who is a board member and who shared with me that these measure more than 1/4" larger in each direction than the m101-6s I own, which would appear to account for the borders. Still, I'm wondering if others here have these bordered m101-6s in their collections.

Here are the Wingo on Ebay next to mine and the Rice that sold next to mine. I also include my Hooper, which although showing two thin striped borders, bears little resemblance to these others.

Hmmm. Interesting. I can't tell if it's the image quality but I don't like the noise in the text of the Full Bordered versions. To me, seeing patterns there or any noise makes me think dupe. But again, I might just be seeing artifacting caused by the quality of the image presented above.

That being said, the images look pretty good. So maybe this is just another printing? I don't know this issue well, so take my comments with a grain of salt.

Interesting Todd. It's almost like there were 2 different printings, one with and one without borders. My only example has no borders...

Nice catch Todd - I have one that has the full borders you have shown, and a couple others that have the thin border.

Here is a scan of my full-bordered example - I remember thinking something was different about it when I got it, but I never really paid that much attention to it.

It does seem as if there was a second printing. Chris, can you tell me whether the stock on your Donie Bush is the same as the other m101-6s? Both yours and the Rice have small chips out of them--I've seen m101-6s creased and otherwise damaged before, but don't recall seeing these small edge tears. Just wondering if the stock is somehow less sturdy and/or more paperlike.

I will Check when I get home Todd - I don't remember it being markedly different than other M101-6's I own, but I also wasn't really comparing the two.

FWIW

These are 100% authentic and original, absolutely no doubt about that. I have owned probably 30 of the borderless M101-6 before and these are the same stock and quality although admittedly the only ones I have ever owned with borders. You can tell in half a second when holding these that they are the real deal.

Agree with Rhys - these are definitely the real deal. I checked mine last night and there is no appreciable difference in the thickness or card stock that I could notice.

Rhys,

No doubt they are real. On the other variant, here is one I currently have in my collection and one I had previously. Another one I had previously has already been posted:

Chris, since you have an example of each close at hand could you confirm that your Donie Bush is noticeably larger than your other m101-6s, in both directions?
Thanks.

Default M101-6

Does anyone know if a M101-6 Felix Mendelsohn Honus Wagner card exists? If so, what image does the card contain?

Thanks,
Tony

Tony, now that we know there is a joe Jackson, your question is now the big mystery about this set.

Peter,

That's part of the reason why I posed the question. Seems odd that he would've been omitted from the set. He was one of the big name HOFer's at that time. I guess time will tell.

Honus Wagner is the big question mark now, as Peter alluded to, but the checklist is all over the place on this set. I have seen 99 listed as a number, all the way up to 123 on the high end. I don't know if there has even been a confirmation of 99 different subjects yet, so who knows.

One thing is for certain - there is a lot left to learn about this set...
