I've shown this to some of you, but Leon thought this was a cool photo and asked me to post it. Age guess is late 1870's to early 1880's, dated by shoes and mitt. Photo is a bit larger, with tan backing board.

Many of these old matted photos fit modern frames perfectly. I recently removed one from a metal frame - it had been hanging on my wall for years. Unfortunately, the clips on the back that pushed the corners of the backing against the photo to hold it, had applied too much pressure. The matting board had broken right along the clip's line. These old matted albumens used cheap mat-board that is now very brittle.

David Rudd mentioned this previously - albumen photos are so thin that they had to be glued to a backing board. As a result, they become one with their backing board. Another one of my old albumen photos bent down the middle, then snapped completely in two, photo and board together.

Snapped it right in two, paid to have it mended.
