Two sources for the star cards in my sets.... a dealer I’ve been friends with who runs a monthly show and eBay as graded and then broken out to go in set binder.

I acquired a number of great cards back in the early 1970s from the great Gar Miller. One of the cards I got from was a 1953 Mickey Mantle.

Most of mine came from packs bought as as kid or from Wholesale Cards (Bruce Yeko).

These days, it's all about the saved searches on ebay for me. The few shows happening around here each year are a great opportunity to inhale the awesome aroma of musty cardboard while chatting up other collectors, but the pricing of star cards is always unnerving, so I usually just walk away with lesser things of interest. So, I check ebay often, and if something pops up that's too great to pass on, I jump on it!

Card shows 20-30 years ago and eBay 10-20 years ago, or I'd not have them today.

From all over really.

From packs, Local card shop, shows, Ebay, flea markets, even a collection from one of moms co-workers which included everything except Mantle because that was her sons favorite. Most came in batches of cards I bought.

I haven't been to a card show since the early '90s.

Is this what someone should expect at the National too? Have been thinking of going this year

I think the last one I heard of in Eastern Washington (State) was in 2005. I then moved to an even smaller town that doesn't even have an LCS. But we do have a Magic the Gathering shop!

My 3 top star cards in Mantle, Mays and Robinson were given to me by my Father over 30 yrs ago.
I've purchased many cards since 2016 but none compare to those 3, imo.

Razzes in Facebook groups.

Amongst them, I've won a PSA 7 and 3 PSA 8 Fleer Jordan rookies, a PSA 10 Lebron chrome rookie, 28 PSA 10 Trouts, and so on.
