Default Fun is doing a run of Tobacco, Candy, etc. cards...show-n-tell us of your current run

My current run is the T206 Donlin (with bat). Also, have a run with his fielding pose. But, the batting pose is more fun as it presents quite a challenge.

Thanks to Dan McKee for a nice deal on this card at the Philly Show.

I'm up to eight different backs of this Hal Chase fielding pose. I know I still need the E105 Mello-Mint.

Are you going to include Coupons in your runs?

Edited to dd: Duh, I see a Coupon in your run! And Kottons!

Nice guys. DJ, great meeting you in person in Philly. Ted, as always, great seeing you and thanks again for the t213 Chance. Great thread idea.

I don’t know how to post pics like you guys with all the fronts and backs lined up in a single shot, so here is one run I am working on. I know I still need the black Croft’s Cocoa, the E105, the e106, the T216 VE, and other T216 Kotton variations. DJ, am I missing any?

Maybe I can post some other runs down the line.

Ryan, a couple come to mind immediately. Tango Eggs I know exists and was previously owned by a board member. I also believe a D303 General Baking is known to exist though not sure if this is a batting or standing pose. I don't think a Mothers Bread has been confirmed yet, but it might be possible. I've seen someone on the board mention the red croft exists as well, but have seen no proof of it. There are also a lot of permutations to the Kottons (and maybe Mino/VE?) especially if you count the team name variations as well. I'm not familiar enough with the T216s to know all the possible combinations.

In the archive there is an old thread from 2009 about asking if some Cobb's existed, 3 of the 5 asked about have now been confirmed (http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=92102).

Ryan, I know there is a T216 Cobb lean-on-bat T216-3 (the thin paper w/o a factory #) "Detroit Am." It is the exemplar used in the 2006 SCD checklist.

I have picked up a few over the years, up to around 25, but have only recently started studying the backs. VE and T216-3 have thin paper and no factory #. T216-1 (1.2.3. Kotton fact 11), T216-2 Kotton fact 4, Mino Fact 4.

I would like to get checklists for all 5 backs, but I'm gathering more information before I start a post about it. I believe T216-3 (which I believe should be called type 1) and VE should be similar in subjects as they are similar in design, likewise MINO and T216-2(fact 4). The most common set seems to be the Kotton 123 fact 11's. I'll post more later on this as It's mostly conjecture.

Here's a Tinker port run off to a good start...

Default more on t216 cobb lean-on-bat

Okay, so here's what's known for T216 Cobb lean-on-bat

T216-1 123 fact 11 Detroit Americans
T216-2 Fact 4 Detroit Americans
T216-3 No fact Detroit Am.
T216 Mino Fact 4 Detroit Americans

If you all find a Virginia Extra, I would expect it to have the "Detroit Am." caption like the T216-3

Here's a T216-2 from 2008 REA....(not mine)

----
Also, to get back more on topic, I have a T205 run that I need to scan and will post later. Rob

Default Fun is doing a run of Tobacco, Candy, etc. cards...show-n-tell us of your current run

Some really great stuff guys......let's see how many more varieties of BB card runs we can display in this thread.

Needless to say, Baseball card runs usually comprise of a given subject and its many different T-brand (or Candy-brand) backs which it was printed with.
But then there is another type of run which consists of a group of different subjects with the same SCARCE back. This group is unique within their Series
because the other subjects in that particular Series were not printed with that SCARCE back. For example, the 460-only Series in the T206 set comprises
of 48 subjects; however, only these 12 guys in this Series were printed with the red HINDU back. I refer to these guys as the "Exclusive 12".....……………..

Bob and DJ, sincere thanks for all the info. Between you both, you can probably reconstruct a total back list for all E92 (or T216) fronts. So much knowledge on this site.

Dean, I love that run. It’s as foolish an endeavor as the unicorns I chase and I love it! One step at a time, and if Jamie can complete the red Cobb, you and I can complete the Matty dark cap run and Evers yellow sky run, respectively.

Ted, that run of red Hindus are perfect for Christmas. My favorite back

Scott, that is a Grade-A AWESOME color run. That is a heck of an accomplishment.

I remember when you got the Newsboy (sick card). Personally, I prefer the blue backs the best because of the Newsboys.

Thanks Pete and Ryan - much appreciated! Yes, missing the olive green and the lone orange. But I have the three additional cards with overprints, so I count that as offsetting the other missing ones (at least in my own head!).....

Been a more fruitful year for going after these....I think I need 14 more (need to update the collage) but likely won’t get there.....very happy regardless.

Amazing, 67 cards (of 68) in your 1910 COUPON set......that is a remarkable achievement. Thanks for display what is arguably the most difficult pre-war set to complete.

The Bob Rhoades card is an interesting one. He retired in Aug 1909, and because of that, my guess is that American Litho short printed this card. This would explain why
his T3 and 1910 COUPON cards are real tough to find.

Good luck in finding Rhoades.

With only 14 cards in my set, I'll never approach your 67-card set. Anyhow, here are the 6 super-prints in the T206 set with 1910 COUPON backs :

Note....this Chance card is now in Ryan Hotchkiss' collection.

Never wanted to do a back run but after making a trade on here for a Croft back Bill Bergen I thought, what the hell! ...card itself is pretty cool looking with the full catchers gear on

I guess I still need a red Croft and the t216s but I pretty much consider my run complete haha

Default T205 Bridwell

Thanks, Ted, you have the stars from the set. Thanks for the bio info on Rhoades. Sometimes I think I spend too much time on commons. For example, this T205 Bridwell run. I didn't choose to do this player. I found a BL black on ebay and a short time later a Drum showed up and after that I went for the rest. Not all are shown here. I still need a few that I'm not sure are possible or not...Hassan 30, SC 25 and 42 black, BL green, blank, Hindu, P 42, one of the AB's

My T205 research indicates that don't be concerned about Bridwell with HINDU and green AB backs (they don't exist). Black AB card of Bridwell does exist.

Our collecting trends appear to be quite similar. Here are two examples of several T205 runs I have been working on......

Huggins is my favorite of these T205 A-B-C-D sub-sets......plus, I have Huggins with several other T205 backs. No DRUM card has been confirmed with Huggins (to date).
I expect his DRUM will eventually be discovered.

Same goes for Lobert (no DRUM yet).…..

Only 10 possible cards are needed to complete this Doolan run. I still need the BROAD LEAF 350 card. And, according
to my A-B-C-D theory the DRUM is one of the possible backs. However, no DRUM has been confirmed as of this date.

Default Chief Meyers T205 back run compete!

Officially finished my 10 card Chief Meyers T205 back run today.

This project wasn't always fun. The last two backs I needed were extremely difficult to find, and I ended up settling for a little paper loss on both backs in the end.

The big surprise was picking up a front/back combination that I did not know existed when I started the run...a Chief Meyers American Beauty (green.)

Here are scans of the 8 different brands. Piedmont and Hassan had two different factories available.

Nice T205 run of Meyers cards. Thanks for sharing them with us.

A bigger surprise for you is the possibility of Meyers HINDU card.

Currently there are 23 subjects in this set confirmed with the HINDU back. And, several of them are Catchers.
But that's not why I'm suggesting this. It's the back pattern of your run which is indicative of the possibility of
Meyers having been printed with the HINDU back.

Thanks, If you see a T213-1 Rhoades at a card show buy it. I will trade well for it.

Here's a new addition...HLC

I must have the black AB and now I understand or remember that I don't need green AB.

RE: C-Mack's Bergen run. I don't know if Bergen is available with all 5 T216 backs or not. I think it is presumed that all 74 subjects come with all 5 backs, but I haven't seen that explained.

An alert reader pointed out that there is a scan of a T216 Cobb VE in the recent "Louisiana Cards" thread, so we know Cobb lean/bat comes with all 5 backs.

I don't recall the specifics, but I know Steve (Brassrat) has previously posted about the print order of the different backs along with the team variations and how that can be used determine if different combinations are likely/unlikely. Unfortunately, I can't find the thread now so maybe he will comment.

Hey guys,

Bergen should only be found with the KNGO (aka "thin paper") and the VE backs. He finished up his career in 1911 with Brooklyn, so the KNIT, K123, and Mino backs are not going to be found.

There are a few examples of each the KNGO and VE out there.

Cheers,
Steve

Default T216

Thanks, Steve, you should write an article for Old Cardboard on these.

What I was stumbling upon and driving at is mostly what Steve is describing in the prior thread, that the captions are the same for the Virginia Extra and Never Go Out no factory cards. That they are a parallel or near parallel issue.

I was hoping we could get confirmed examples, but I really don't have enough cards or data to ask for that now. It would be nice if SGC would start to label the 5 backs.

I started in on the checklists questions when I saw a Dave Shean NGO back. I looked at my cards and I have 2. Then another Shean NGO appeared. 4 cards of one of the rarest backs, all of Shean, and I had not seen Shean with another back. It doesn't mean Shean is not found with other backs, but I would guess there should be a Shean VE.Good luck on these all, I'll check back on T216 if I see something new. Rob

Rob, I agree that Shean should be possible with a VE back, but given that he was only with Boston for 1909-1910 (and 4 games in 1912), I would not expect that he's on the K123/KNIT/Mino backs. I do find it interesting that he's one of the more common KNGO examples.

Back to the original thread purpose, here are some of my Matty cards from my back run. I haven't put together a nice scan compilation yet. I also recently added the Mello-Mint but haven't scanned it yet.

This horizontal Matty would be a dream run for me. Would love to see what you have knocked off so far.
