Default Ticket stubs on eBay

I believe ticket stubs are a great buy right now . . . particularly as they are fading into oblivion . . . but, having said that, the prices people are asking on eBay for vintage tickets is just jaw dropping. I guess most of these folks aren't really in a rush to sell, but asking $5000 for some run of the mill 1930s Yankee ticket ("Babe Ruth homerun number xxx and Gehrig had two doubles!") just seems nuts to me. Even more ridiculous are people selling sportswriter annual passes and the like for $7500 and higher ("1925 Season Pass. Start of Gehrig's Streak!!).

To each his own, but I can't many of these tickets are selling at these level. I guess it's more of an online museum kind of thing.

I see one season pass listed for around $10,000, and I was unsuccessful selling the same piece at a buy it now of $399 a few months ago. Slight disconnect.

I also enjoy seeing someone selling an American league season pass for 1925 with heading "Earliest Gehrig Streak Ticket!" Ok, sure.

Agreed. The price of tickets, cards, and some autographs have made me re-evaluate the direction of how and what I collect...at least until the bubble bursts.

Im a ticket collector but focus on limited players or events. The prices on Ebay are ridiculous and if you really dig deep into alot of those listings, some have been listed for years. Ive seen a number of them listed for 5, 6, 7+ years. On a few, I have offered a higher than market value amount and usually get automatically declined. I dont sell on Ebay but I always thought there were listing fees each month an item doesnt sell but I guess not.

Nope. As you say, some stuff has been listed for years. I wonder what the longest running is.

And of course you have the guys who make a run of the mill ticket sound like something super special.....

“Only the third time Ted Williams homered in first game of a double header”.

“Only game in 1929 where Gehrig homered and Ruth had two doubles”.

I am missing only 2 World Series tickets (1920 and 1921), but can't get either without paying way too much on eBay....Nothing has come to the auction houses, as most seem to be focused on cards.

Let me know if you every come across a 1920 or 1921 World Series ticket stub that isn't priced 2x!

I'm also chasing a run of WS tickets - though I'm going from 1930-1980.

I just saw that REA has a 1920 WS Game 4 Ticket in their May Auction here: https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=84390

Darren Rovell has been posting tickets on his Instagram stories a lot. I'm not sure how much influence he has compared to others, but it hasn't seemed like a coincidence.

Talk about STUPID stats, I'm stealing the rest of this post from Joe Posnanski's article on The Athletic today :

Pujols homered for the Dodgers today (yay!) and StatsPerform posted this tweet:

"Albert Pujols of the @Dodgers is the first player in MLB history to homer for two different teams in the same metro area before the end of May."

And I say this with all respect: This is not a thing. This is a statistic that they would use on “The Simpsons” to mock baseball stats.

Ha. That's funny. Yes, could see on the Simpsons . . .

Kind of surprised Strawberry didn't do it for the Mets and Yankees.

Two reasons Straw didn't do it :

He never switched teams mid season, and after the Mets he spent 4 years with the Dodgers and Giants before going to the Yankees.

You got that right!

He's the guy that's been talked about in other threads. Buying all Tickets, paying CRAZY amounts......then re-lists for even crazier.

What is he going to list this one at, can't wait.

Has sold about 10 of the 900 he's purchased in the past 14 months. Not a very good ratio. Even if he sold for full asking , but he usually gives in for a Best Offer, not full asking price. So just a rich guy eating up all the tickets.

After our last PM's, I did more research on that guy. He is in a Facebook group that specializes in tickets as well. Appears to work as a car salesman at Nissan or a Toyota, I dont remember exactly. He has continued to place stupid bids on ebay on Ruth tickets.

I have 417 different games and trying for a 'full run' the best I can. Prices recently have been off the charts, but a couple of the recently sold items on REA actually sold for less than they did 2 years ago.

I am keen to buy great condition WS stubs if anyone has!!
