Default Help needed with photo of unknown team (possible All Stars)

Has anybody ever seen this picture, or have any idea of it's origin?

I have it on a Blum's Bulletin supplement, but it's the only Blum's supplement I have that doesn't have a caption, which seems kind of strange since the numbering of the players in the picture seems to allude to a caption listing the names matching the numbers.

Any help is much appreciated, thank you in advance,
Doug

Well, that looks like Chick Gandil in the back row. He was with Montreal in 1911.

Which teams are represented in the photo?

I'm not an expert on uniforms, but here are the ones that I see by player :

1, 10, 14 - unknown 1
2, 17 - Toronto Maple (Leafs?)
3, 8, 16 - (Montreal?)
4, 9 - unknown 2
5, 12 - Providence (Grays?)
6 - unknown 3
7 - x
11, 15 - (Baltimore or Buffalo?)
13 - Jersey City (Skeeters?)

Possibly the Eastern league in 1911, or International League 1912-13-14-15 (unless that's Gandil in the back)?

If we run with Gandil for a minute, 1912 could still work due to him still being with Montreal at the start of the season, and there is a Blum's Bulletin of the Rochester teams for both 1911 and 1912.

Thoughts?

Thank you.

Does anybody have access to the Sporting Life or Sporting News issues from that time frame? Probably last issue in Sept and first two (maybe three) in October 1911?

If so, can you check to see if there is any mention of the game, and maybe even a picture?

Doug

It was a series of games played in different cities and whoever won 4 games was the winner.

Wow, thank you Don. Looks like you have nailed it, although if we can find the same picture somewhere that would really seal the deal.

From the Sporting News, September 28, 1911 issue Page 5

Hope this is viewable. For the life of me I couldn't get a large enough version uploaded so I linked it from my Imgur pix.

Thanks, ballparks! Just research people associated with the All-Star game and then go from there. Plus I only had to deal with one year. Then put in a few hours searching and hoping to find something.

The Libary of Congress has free newspapers online you can use or you can use a subscription-based online service for newspapers.
