Default Why is Net54 called Net54?

OK, this may be common knowledge but I haven't seen it before. I was wandering why Net54 is called Net54? It's not an obvious name for a baseball collecting forum.

It is a derivative of our first hosting company, the now defunct Network54.com site. It hosted forums and got bought out by Tapatalk. They had very antiquated s/w and that is probably what did them in. It's the reason we moved.

And I thought that it was because Leon nets 54% on every baseball card he sells . . .

The original network54 was a non-sports site right, or was this always the primary and that was the secondary? I came to here by way of that forum, but it seems it is not around anymore.

It was network54.com/Forum/526604 but that address just goes to the Tapatalk homepage now.

No, Network54.com was a hosting site for any forum there is. There were all kinds. Unlike other hosting sites it also had it's own forum software. They never got their s/w updated and fell way behind. When almost out of business they sold to Tapatalk. We moved several years before that.

I alway thought it was because the previous 53 networks exploded.
