1977 Topps Images Needed
Hello -
Looking for images of any of the following items associated with 1977 Topps Baseball: Cello Case (I have the attached image and am wondering if this is a true 1977 case - looks like someone taped a sheet of paper to it). Rack Case - were there 3- and 6- box varieties? Grocery Pack box (assume 24 packs per box?) Grocery Pack Case (assume 2 boxes per case? Were there larger cases as in later years with 192 packs?) Any sell sheets or advertisements Baseball card t-shirts as advertised on one of the wax pack variations Uncut Sheets: I only just realized that printing sheets lacked letters in 1977. I HAVE images of two sheets - one with Von Joshua as the upper left card and the other with Jose Cardenal. So, images of any of the remaining 3 sheets are needed. Many thanks! |

I believe you might find some uncut sheets images that you don't already have in these two auctions. Hope this helps.

I did - thank you!
I only need a single sheet now - it would be the one that has all the team cards, checklists, leaders, etc. |

I can’t find that fifth 1977 Topps uncut sheet with all of the team cards to save my life, I wonder if JMoran has a scan or pic of it. ETA: I found one but it could certainly be “upgraded.”

Good God, man!!!!
You've given us all the warm and tinglys (no idea if that's how it's spelled, but "tinglies" or "tingleys" doesn't seem to work right, so who knows?)!!!! That is really cool, and the main card graphic - showing the great mix of action shots and in-stadium, game-day portraits of mostly regular players (not just HOFers) from that great set - really pulls you right in. For those of us who were amassing cards that year, it really brings us back, and brings us back with a big smile. Awesome job!!

Great work on this and all the other years.
One correction on this. You have: * -Although he was selected and played as a member of the Orioles, Grich appears in the 1977 set with the Orioles with whom he signed during the off-season. I think the second Orioles above should be Angels. Also, wax packs were sold in 1975 boxes with a sticker for 1977 on the box. Here is an example from an old auction. item_96098_1_210081.jpg |

Correction made - thanks for finding it!
And the wax box is a great addition as well - they either had a surplus of 1975 boxes sitting around the warehouse or else didn't print enough of the 1977 boxes. Wonder why they didn't use them in 1976? Probably somewhere there's an image of one with a sticker announcing it contains 1976 cards! |

Great coverage of this issue. 1977 Topps was the first year that I bought cards in wax packs, so this set holds a special memory for me. I really love the photos, design and All-Star banners. Was especially excited in 1977 to see four Cincinnati Reds (my fav team) noted as All-Stars. The Fidrych card is a classic.
A couple of thoughts - only four of 18 of the 1977 All Stars eventually made it to the HOF. I wonder how that compares to other years where Topps put the All-Star banner on cards. And none of the Topps All Rookie team members eventually made it to Cooperstown. Thanks for putting this together.

What a great trip down memory lane! Takes me back to my early years of collecting. Really enjoy your thorough look at the sets as well as your coverage of the packaging.
Although it is a seperate set, you may want to add the 1977 cloth stickers as it is basically a parallel set. Here is a link showing an uncut sheet: https://forums.collectors.com/discus...ore-an-auction and another showing one of the checklist puzzles: https://www.beckett.com/news/1977-to...kers-baseball/ and the case, box, and wrappers: https://www.mearsonlineauctions.com/lot-56796.aspx Looking forward to future set reviews! |
