Default Baseball in the Movies

I thought it might be interesting to see what collectors have pertaining to baseball in the movies. From what I've read, the first movie about baseball was a documentary in 1898 "The Ball Game", with next movie being in the early 1900's. Ty Cobb was actually in a movie in 1917 entitled "Somewhere in Georgia" - go figure. I have an early lobby card from the 1919 movie "The Busher", pictured in this listing.

Does anyone have early movie pictures, lobby cards, or memorabilia from movies that featured baseball? What about Babe Ruth's movies? I bet some movie items exist, although they rarely come up for auction. If so, please share for all to see!

Probably one of Babe Ruth’s least popular cards but the Josetti Card features a scene from the silent film “Speedy”. “Speedy” was shot on location in NYC when the Babe was approaching 60 homers. Lou Gehrig even makes a somewhat brief cameo appearance in the film.

Here’s a documentary of the film ( skip to 16:34 to see the parts featuring the Babe)

You do know there's an entire baseball card set, the 1948 Swell, "The Babe Ruth Story" set, that was put out about the movie on Ruth's life, right? It starred William Bendix as the Babe, and Claire Trevor. Came out a few months after Ruth passed away I believe, The last 4 cards in the 28 card set included photos of Ruth with Bendix, or of Ruth with Bendix and Trevor.

Yes sir, very familiar with the movie. I acquired and sold several type 1 photos from that movie. I've attached a couple for your viewing pleasure.

Check out the cigarette the Babe is holding - classic!

Default Pat Flaherty sighting !

Pat Flaherty is the third guy in the picture with Ruth and Wm Bendix. Interesting guy. Played PCL ball, has a Zeenut. Also played a stint with the Chicago Bears. Acted in over 200 films. IMDB has Flaherty playing the role of Bill Carrigan (who never managed the White Sox so can't figure out why he's sporting their uniform).

Check out the most recent post by John Thorn on his Our Game blog.
It is about one of the first baseball related films. Very interesting as usual.
