Default old silver dollars from pre 1920 ??

..Just being nosy , but silver is going down down down and I was considering buying some old silver dollars rolls ( beaters , no numismatic value stuff ) , on spec , figuring to re-sell in a year or two or three ..... has anyone tried this ?? I'm scared of stock market and "futures" , and cards right now are really just too damned high right now......CD's are nowhere near inflation , and oil and gas are a gamble....so I've always liked playing with old worn silver dollars , mint mark be damned.....I like the stories they tell...Thanks , stay healthy , MG54

Want something really cool? Go after Trade Dollars with chop marks. Those are freaking cool to me.

Nothing wrong with buying on speculation. Silver will always be worth something and you can always make money when the market is right.

Market is currently down but dealers won’t be lowering their prices. Be prepared to pay a hefty markup.

Scrap price is $14.55 each from the source I looked up.

Like in baseball cards the "investors" don't want to loose money so they are hoping to catch a fish at the high prices.

Went at looked at the single coin BIN prices on eBay and they are crazy high compared to their real value.

If buying I would wait till they are closer to real value as it could be a very long time before you could make money on them now.

This is right. Check out the buy and sell price a popular online dealer has. On a Maple Leaf 500 count box, the spread is over $2,700 and works out to $5.45 per one ounce coin.

https://www.golddealer.com/product/c...-of-500-coins/

When you buy something and have to wait for its market value to rise that much just to be able to break even, that's not a good way to go.

Totally agree Butch. I have a collection of coins and I can only speculate where they've been and who may have held them; but this trade dollar tells a story. This one has a good amount of marks to where you can still enjoy the coin itself. Luckily it has a numerical grade and not graded as a genuine with "grafitti"

...********----- I heard the radio guy on Bloomberg talking about "precious metals" just by luck today and , yeah , silver is headed more downside because of a "strong dollar" , and he also said that when the AM Radio ads for buying precious metals NOW !! "for your portfolio !!" are as frequent as MrPillow guy ads , then that tells you the geniuses are dumping ....so I'll just slowly buy cheap rolls of 20 old Morgans on EBay auctions that end Tues thru Friday at goofy ending times when everyone's busy or at work............thanks for all the advice...MG54

As a buyer I am a big fan of auctions ending on weekday mornings.
