Default 51 Mantle printing line

I recently entered the market for a 1951 Mantle. I’ve tried to find a nice card in the 3/4/5 range. I’ve also tried to avoid that printing line that often goes down the center of the card, but many cards have it. I haven’t seen where this line affects the grade significantly. Have people just accepted it as part of the card, even though not all of the cards have it? Appreciate thoughts.

PSA normally cares about printing lines like that on grades 7 and above. If you're looking in the market lower than 6, it's not something that would reduce the grade much past 6.

This is a card whose beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. I bought a beat up 1 but my goal was to find a centered Mantle without the defect you're talking about. So I was happier to find my example than I would have been to find a higher grade off center card with the print line:

Personally I could not live with the print lines. Every time I would see a 3-4 range for sale for decent price it always had those lines. I settled for a lesser grade but without those print lines. As said before "beauty is in eye of the beholder". This one worked for me.

You got me to wondering if other imperfections enter into consideration as much as print lines and centering. Mine was acquired so long ago, the 550 bucks didn't concern me as much as overall eyeball appeal.

That is a beautiful card for the grade. I'd much rather have yours than one with the print lines 3 or 4 grades higher.

Can't believe the difference in quality between a 1 and 1.5.

If it doesn't really go through his facial features or mess up his name, I'm okay with it.
