Default Ebay etiquette

I meant to bid on a copule of baseball items last night but got caught up in the NCAA tournament and before I knew it, I realized I had forgotten to bid.

Maybe I should just let it go but wanted some opinons. On Ebay, I cannot tell who won the auction until the seller or buyer leave feedback. Is it appropriate to wait for one of the parties to leave feedback, find out who the buyer was, and offer twice or more what they paid? I'm not sure I would want someone doing that to me, but maybe I would depending on the item. BTW two of the items are nearly identical and were sold together and I would be satisfied with just one.

My question is what do others think about this approach, is it excessively rude, or have you ever done it? Thanks.

I think it would be fine for you to contact the winner and ask about a chance to buy if he ever decides to sell. Maybe say that if he ever lists it on eBay for sale, to please email you, that you'd have paid twice that for it...

I never have done that, but I wouldn't mind someone contacting me after I won an auction. I don't see anything wrong with it. Also, I wouldn't disclose that you would pay twice for it...maybe there is a chance you won't have to.

I don't see it as rude. You are not offending anybody, well.....except for your wallet. Heck, maybe a flipper purchased it and they will be happy to sell it to you for 100% profit. Go for it, no pain no gain.

Lovely Day...

In my case "methinks' is a oxymoron.

I would do it without hesitation. In the "good old days" of ebay, we used to contact each other all the time, to make trades, side deals, etc. I have both sold and acquired stuff this way, and there's nothing at all wrong with it. It was... dare I say.... fun!

The worst he can say is "no" and even if he does, neither of you are any worse off. As the winning bidder, I would typically be thrilled to receive an offer of double what I paid. Best of luck!

I see no problem with it...............if they say "no thanks", at least you know and move on.
