Default 1957 Clemente vs 1958 Clemente

Condition being equal, which year is more valuable and why ?

To me, it's a coin flip. I absolutely abhor the 1958 set (save for the All Star cards), and I take a very dim view of close-up headshots...so on the fence I sit. (But the smile on his '57 card might make me lean that way.)

Spelling "Yastrzemski" correctly without needing to look it up since the 1980s.

My guess without doing any research would be...Grades being equal, I'd say in collector grades, 1957 is more valuable due to the 1957 set being more popular. In higher grades, 1958 more valuable due to scarcity.

I think if the images were switched it would make for two better cards. The best cards in the 57 set are full body shots, think Mays, Aaron, & Banks. The best cards in the 58 set are headshots, think Mays, Aaron, Kaline.

As far as more valuable, 58 Clemente team name in yellow.

You left out The Mick! The '58T is one of my favorite Mantles, the '57T has to be the weirdest: Mickey in the grass taking a practice swing with a ghost walking behind him.

As for value, I had both of these for sale on BST about a year ago. I sold the '58 for $1030, was asking $900 for the '57 but got no takers.

But who is or was the ghost and are there different degrees of the ghost ? On some of the 58s Mantle has a defect in his left eye. I would go with the 57 in both cases

I am actively buying and selling vintage sports cards graded and raw. Feedback as a buyer: https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=297262

I am accepting select private consignments of quality vintage cards (raw or graded) and collecting "want" lists for higher end ($1K+) vintage cards.
