Gibbs Conner Pieces

I am intrigued by the Gibbs Conner prototypes that were uncovered about 4 years ago. For 50 years (1954 - 2004), the only known piece was the Chief Wahoo Bank. I always wondered why Gibbs Conner didn't produce others (similar to Stanford Pottery).

When the other Teams were discovered, it was a monumental find, that really hasn't received the publicity one would expect. As most of you know, these were never publicly released, and never hit retail store shelves. Anyway, I wanted to post a couple of rarely-seen items that are leaving my collection...

These are huge Cookie Jars... both gem mint. A Brooklyn Bum and a Milwaukee Braves Mascot. They are going to a great home, but wanted to take one final opportunity to share these images, as they are seldom-seen. Apparently, less than 5 of each were discovered.

Awesome Mark. I know you had mentioned to me before you had many of the Gibbs Conner pieces. These really dont get the attention they deserve. Too bad these never made it into production but thankfully some have survived the years and can still be enjoyed. The Brooklyn cookie jar is a gem. Thanks for posting the pics.

Yikes! Those things should only be brought out on Halloween!

You're right Jodi... a striking and scary resemblance. No wonder these were never picked up by retailers of the era. Thanks (in advance) for the nightmare I'll be having tonight.

Brock... I like your Schlitzie Metz (Brooklyn Bum) Ashtray. But the Trophy behind it with the crossed Bats looks incredible. Only part of it got into the pic... would you mind posting a separate image of this trophy (or just email to me off-line?) Looks like a real beauty... Thanks!

Its made by Wallace Brothers. Dont know if its only part of a trophy or what. It is a recent ebay pickup. I was expecting it to be small in size but its about 10" tall. A little beat up though.

That is very cool, Brock. I missed seeing that one on ebay, but there is one somewhat similar in the current Lelands Auction (Lot 212). They are saying it is circa 1900, and it's 12" tall. Looks like yours is in comparable condition, or even better. Thanks for posting!
