Default Stamp collectors question regarding baseball

Posted By: Jim Manos

I was offered some $1 dollar revenue stamps pertaining to the shift of the Nat'l League Braves franchise from Boston to Miwaukee. The person selling these quoted me $75 dollars each is the Stamp catalog value? Many and most have N.L. Milwaukee Braves overprint and stamps are unused. Any help would be great...I look at revenue stamps on ebay at $5 and $10 dollars??

Revenue stamps in general take a back seat for most stamp collectors...never heard of one related to baseball though. I would guess they would not be that easy to sell.

Revenues were heavily printed cause you used to have to put them on about EVERYTHING back in the day. Be careful of overprints too...............never heard of anything like that.........Milwaukee that is...............

I once collected stamps. Still have most. I had/have revenue stamps,
but don't recall there being anything at all having to do with baseball
or the Braves. Can you post a scan?? I am skeptical about what you're
describing.

Default Stamp collectors question regarding baseball

Here is a 1920's Stock transfer of the Louisville Baseball Club certificate with some stamps on it (there are also about 16 more stamps on the back). I sold this on ebay for the hammer price of...............$10. That makes each of these stamps about 50 cents if that. I am not sure if these are the kinds of things you are looking it or not. I have also owned a ton of old documents with Revenue stamps on them and they have never sold for much so I cant imagine Revenue stamps themselves being worth much, but I am not a stamp guy. In my opinion, these are not worth a whole lot but I could be wrong.

It's not uncommon to find CdV's with revenue stamps affixed to the backs.

could you post a picture?

In general revenue stamps aren't worth much. If you post a photo I'll try to find out what its "worth".

If it's for moving from Boston to Milwaukee for the Braves that was mid 50's--right? They definitely wouldn't have much value probably. If you find someone who's a Braves fan, the document itself might have some value but likely the stamp won't. I know you don't like to post pictures but that'd be your best bet.

I don't know how to posts scans. I have tried numerious times, my scan's are to large and I have never found time nor had the patience to learn to crop them. I am sure it has cost me alot but I am going to have to have someone physically show me. The Revenue stamp is just like what Rhys posted but they have a stamp/overstamp that say's Milwaukee Baseball Club across them. I passed on the deal as he wanted $75 each and appreciate all the insight. I know it tick's people off and I must learn how to post scans.
