Mike nice trophy, you're going to need a trophy case soon.

Matt, great Babe Ruth advertisement, can't be too many of those around.

I thought you were going to be posting about a double knob bat.

Good point Clint. I actually moved things around my office today and am going to build a nice oak case in a corner. I'm working on design elements now.

Here's a big 6" button of the Alaska Glacier Pilots. They won the National Baseball Congress championship in 1971. Cy Young winner Randy Jones is on the far left, lower row.

Clint,
The double knob is a great bat. I wish I won it, but besides the Halper example, it the first one that I know of that sold for over 3,000 publicly. It proves that the early bats are still going strong which is good to see.

Matt, I agree completely. I just watched two Spalding bats go higher than I've ever seen. A Keeler Gold Medal sold over $1100 and a Evers Gold Medal went for over $600. I've noticed that quality early bats are getting fewer and far between.

Its funny Mike, I got the bat for the exact amount of my max bid. Exact same dollars and cents. Somebody could of bid 1 penny more and won.

Nice shoot'n on the ring bat Brock...36" is a good size. Any maker? how about a close up of the ring and barrel end? It appears to have the classic (and all important to me) squared barrel end
-Carlton - PS, National story is coming along fine..pretty soon

Hey, I finally added something baseball in the last year! Don't get too excited now...but it's the first thing I've seen that wasn't priced at a gazillion dollars. Will still look good next to the other pins I guess.

back to the game...

No maker on the ring bat Carlton. I'll post some more pics shortly. Camera battery is currently dead. But the bat does have the squared off, flat top like you mentioned. Bat has several nice 19th century characteristics; long and heavy, center rings, flat top, and a miniscule little knob.

Sweet ring bat Brock!

Here are a couple of my recent pickups.
First is a 1895 McLoughlin Bros The Yale and Princeton FootBall Board Game. I lost out in one of these in an estate auction a few years ago, and was very happy to pickup this one up.

Next I picked up another pennant quilt and this time I decided to start taking this one apart. The quilt has some nice circa 1910 college pennatns in it, but the quilt itself was pretty unappealling with pennants jutting out here and there, so I didn't feel bad taking it apart.
I have taken off 5 or 6 pennants so far and they are coming off very well.

Keith, great pickups there...the Peru pennant is most likely Nebraska State Normal School...now know as Peru State College.

Thanks Dan, I think you're right on the Peru pennant.

Great pickup on your photo too. That is a fantastic price for an identified 19th century cabinet photo, nice find.

Greg T,

I certainly wouldn't mind adding an example of Mr. Karger's autograph to my collection. I really would have figured to see one turn up over all this time, but I've had no luck. Same goes for his teammate Irv Higgenbotham.

Anonymous Keith,
Wow, great game....I think it may even be an early version of that particular game. I'll have to wait till I get home to study mine...The Yale Princeton is the best/most deluxe version of the Mcloughlin football games...coincidently, because of a particular Mcloughlin football game at the National, I elaborated on them in my story...Since you picked this up you may be interested in the examination...which you'll be able to read soon. Hey nice pennants too, nice going!
Carlton

Keith, I just now noticed the Cotner pennant. It is from a defunct college in Lincoln, NE. Cotner College.

Where did this pennant quilt originate from?

I've never purchased a spoon before, but I'm a real sucker for anything with crossed bats on it. So when this turned up on ebay, I picked it up.

Ooops Carlton, I logged in but I guess I forgot to fill in the name slot. Thanks for the info, I can't wait to read the writeup. That is great that it may be an early version. I know Hunts had one 2 years ago that had the same graphics, however in a slightly different orientation, with the little boy in the right corner, and the pennants in the upper left and right corner.

Dan, I hadn't had a chance to research Cotner yet, so thanks alot for the help. I picked up the quilt on ebay, as to where it originated from prior to that, I'm not sure

thanks again

Keith the NWU Pennant is Nebraska Wesleyan...which is also located in Lincoln..and I'm guessing by this point the Red swatch with the N on it is from the U of Nebraska. Heck the only Lincoln school your missing there is Union College.

I think this pennant was listed the day after the first one ended. Seems like the seller probably saw the price the first one sold for and realized what a gem they had. Congrats Jim.

Thanks guys. Nobody knows for sure how many styles and variations exist, but the Tigers seem to have been toward the top of the list when you consider design, quality, and variety. I love the fact that they dated so many pennants and incorporated unique design features to many. I only have 13 Tigers pennants, but I only collect thier pre 1950 pieces.

Nice pics Clint..is the Babe Adams a first generation photo?

I picked up two more Stock certs of the 1953 Lincoln Chiefs. Of all places I got them off a want ad I placed on Craigslist. After searching nearly a decade for just one stock certificate I've picked up 4 in just the last two months. Funny how that works.

Dan, yeah it's first generation although the back is stamped 1920. I'm sure the picture was taken a few years earlier though. David if I'm wrong correct me here. Here's what the back looks like.

Nice score on the stocks by the way.

Not exactly recent pickups but I finally got them scanned in.

Spahn is a Brace Photo and the other 3 are Burke photos. My scanner doesn't do the Burke photos justice.
