Splitting up a multi-item lot
Posted By: Elliot
When you have gone partners with somebody on a multi-item lot (i.e. a complete set) how have you split it up? Have you done it in person or via scans? Did you have a "draft" or another method? |

Splitting up a multi-item lot

You might want to clarify a little if I am understanging what the question is. You want to do a draft (bank I presume) of money for some shared winnings? As for splitting them up I have just used large scans back and forth...although I haven't gone in too many times....My best was with about 4 other board members on some D304's about 3-4 years ago. We rocked as we must have been the only ones bidding on them....it was sweet...(maybe not for the consignor though) regards |

Splitting up a multi-item lot

I did misunderstand. I was thinking to myself....ok, he's going to buddy up with a card friend and doesn't trust him for the money? That wouldn't make any sense at all.....thanks for the clarification Mike....regards |

Mike is correct. We would be dividing 40 cards between the two of us. Another idea would be to assign a $ value to each card, and then try to divide the cards into two equal value piles. Well, actually three piles, as we would first take out the cards that we intend to sell. Perhaps this is too complicated and a draft would be easier. Anybody else have any experience in divvying up a lot. |

Ive gone in on one lot with another board member (unfortunately we didnt win). However, it was a set of 18 or 20 M101-5s - mostly HOFers and a few other notables such as cicotte, etc. |

Tough topic, I would guess that it has got to get tougher with more people involved. I guess if the whole thing was to be sold and the profits divided then there'd be no issue. In the case where you have cards to be divided it might be best to assign a $$ value to the cards and then go by value. Then there's always the coin toss to see who picks first.... |

Splitting up a multi-item lot

On the main lot split up I remember, the D304's, we went into it knowing what cards (there were about 8-10) each would get if we won. After we won I arbitrarily set prices. Everyone agreed, we all got real good deals, and all were happy. Different circumstance than yours though, Elliot, but thought I would try to add a little clarity to my earlier ramblings..It sounds like a draft might be best in your situation...but who goes first? Maybe 2nd gets 2nd and 3rd pick, to make up for the 1st pick? ...regards |

I think the best way with two people is to start by declaring what each person's priority cards will be. Hopefully, there not the same cards that each persona wants. Often times, a lot will have a few cards of greater value than others. Further, one individual sometimes only really wants two or three cards out of the 40, but is willing to take the extras to get the cards to add to their set. |

Split a lot of T207 Lewis, Lowdermilk and Miller (the Big 3) with 2 others and all 3 knew going in which one they wanted and the approximate price range. |
