Here are some of my recent purchases. I am working on the 1961 Topps All Star set in PSA 9 and the 1968 All Star set in PSA 9 or 10.

Anybody who knows me could predict I'd love peter's Yaz RC, and I do, but I was also excited to see the Mick and Hammer card.

1949 Bowman is a really beautiful set. My only card is the Lou Boudreau, but I love that Campy and really like the Musial and Jackie Robinson cards too.

Allegedly the gray variation ones are all hand cut off proof sheets, although some people say otherwise. They used to grade them now they don't. If this is a hand cut it's pretty impressive.

Nice pickups. Showcases why 1956 topps is my favorite set, too. They still have a ton of eye appeal even in lesser condition.

Default Added to my Billy Williams collection

After going a couple of months without adding any new items to my Billy Williams collection, last three weeks have been very good for picking up items! Have a couple more very low pop items that should be here end of the week!

Nice pick ups. Billy is one hell of an underrated ballplayer. And not just saying that because I'm a Cubs fan...

Thanks!

When I first seen the card, back in January, when I joined the site, I had to have one!

I PM'd a couple members who had one in their lots but in both cases both were sold

I had been searching until then until I finally found one that I was able to win.

When I did some research on the card, prior to getting one, I learned it was the only card that Mick and Hank ever appeared on together.
When I found that out, my obsession to obtain one increased that much more.

Steve, those are some awesome additions! I love Venezuelans and those are 2 prime specimens. I'm also a fan of Exhibits, especially the 63 stat backs. Can't wait to see more new additions!

Also - while not perfect - yours seems to be mostly free from the print defect problem that plagues so many of those cards. I've seen PSA 7's where snow covers both player's faces and makes the card downright ugly. Amazing the sole importance sharp corners holds for some people...

In my searching, I also noticed that many times but I was unsure if it was an effect of the scanners/pictures?

I am glad to hear now I skipped on those cards, even though, like you say, they graded fairly decently.

No, it's on the cards. I've had more than a few that have had it over the past 30 years.

Very nice. I had no clue a "gray variation" even existed. Campy seems very under-appreciated these days, especially for a guy who won 3 MVP's. Nothing against him because he's one of my heroes, but all anyone ever wants to talk about these days in relation to the Brooklyn Dodgers is Jackie Robinson, it seems. Jackie made Campy's path possible - but at least once you got closer to the mid-1950's - it was Roy that was doing a heckuva lot more damage at the plate for the Dodgers in comparison to Jackie.

I have been searching for this one for years but kept missing out on it. Even with it being trimmed along the top, I am please to add this to my collection (only 1 ever graded on PSA, so somewhat difficult to find in any condition):

I have also noticed, like mine, although more rarely than anything, the blackish mark on the top border.

When I first seen it, I assumed it was a stain or pen/ink mark but I have notice similar marks, almost in the identical location on more than a few.

Now that I have the one I own, I am debating to get it slabbed or just purchased another one that is already slabbed?

I don't know what it is? Maybe having 2 iconic, HOF players on the same card, or just the fact it's the only card the pair ever appeared on together, but whatever it is, this card did and continues to put a big smile on my face.

Default A bit more than a pickup...

Not so much a pickup, as a dump truck full of cards this month.

Picked up this gargantuan collection from a friend who does high end estate sales.

Was more than he could deal with, and probably more than I can, but who turns this down??

Wow!

Would love just one of those Hank Aaron RC's, let alone the Banks RC and the 56 Mantle.

Will probably be offering up a good part of the collection here on Net54, once several of the items come back from PSA.

I'm keeping one of the Aarons, and sold another to help out a fellow board member who was working on a raw set, but most of the rest of the stuff will show up on here over a long period of time.
Net54 will always get first crack!

--and Peter, nice '59 Musial. Always been partial to that card myself, and near-impossible to find great centering on that issue.

Net54 will always get first crack!

Not everyday a guy's single day pickup beats most of our entire collections!

Great to hear, but highly unlikely I will be able to afford an Aaron let alone some of the other ones.

I will still keep an eye out however.

Hard to tell from the pics, what sort of condition was the estate find in?

Absolutely. The condition is midgrade to lower in general, I'd say.
That said, I'm excited to get PSA results on a fair number of cards -- 54 Banks, 55 Aaron, 61 Maris and Koufax, and 86 Jordan in particular look very, very good, and the '60 Fleer set is uniformly pack-fresh.
Going to be a lot of 4's and 3's for the other cards, I reckon. Still nice eye appeal throughout.

The sheer number of key cards for the hobby across baseball, basketball and football has made the collection a joy to go through.
Iconic cards, regardless of grade, never fail to excite!

After winning this card I was happy to find the white speck by "outfield" to only be on the scan and not the card:
