Default Completing an impossible set

Posted By: tbob

They told me 4 years ago that it was impossible to complete a 1909 Obaks set, that even if you had the money the cards just weren't there. Thanks to Glen V. and Brian S. in a three cornered deal, the last card fell in to place. For those of you who want the enjoyment and frustrations of slowly putting together a set, card by card, it can still be done. Lots of satisfaction. The set needs a few upgrades but what set doesn't? Ebay was almost useless to me but private collectors from this board were invaluable. I was also able to pick up 4 or 5 cards down the stretch from Scott B. and Larry Fritsch cards (of all people) that made it happen. Thanks to everyone. If I can just find the frigging 150 series Mohler, I will have all 4 Obak sets complete

Congrats TBob!

It's quite an achievement to complete those sets in this day and age.

Does this mean your focus is soon to be on E-Cards?

EBob just doesn't sound right.

Congrats,

Patrick

Sorry Bob, your Obak collection, while rather impressive, just is not complete without finishing the T-4 set. I know, I know, the 150 series and the '09 set are tough but now that those are done, you can concentrate on the cabinets...

In all seriousness, congrats! This is a wonderful accomplishment and a wonderful set.

Joshua (thankful that I will no longer have to compete with Bob for obaks)

Congrats TBob!

This is a great achievement. Much like the previous poster, I look forward to you being "less active" on the Obak bidding front...

My side of the trade will ship today (if my boss will let me get out of here ) or tomorrow at the latest.

Brian

bob,

You're the man. Now maybe you'll stop dreaming about that last card arriving in the mail. Or, at least it'll be a new one arriving.

On to the next mission!

Robert

Thats a real accomplishment. I'm still working on my D381's, it gives some hope. I'd like to hear from others who completed really impossible sets...

I would go out and get "Mohler'ed" over this accomplishment! Imagine, completing major vintage sets in this day and age without a credit line that boggles the mind. Quite an accomplishment--congrats.

Great accomplishments on all the sets you have completed Tbob! I know, b/c I don't have the patience myself to complete a set at all.

How hard can that last card really be? I'll put up a $50 finders fee for anyone to find that card for Bob so he can finish his 4 sets.....there Bob,now just find other people to do the same thing and im sure that card will show up somewhere and all you have to do is pay a large amount for it because people now know how tough it is

John, believe me it has crossed my mind that publicizing the fact I need the one card might cause someone to hold it for a huge ransom but how else can I ever find it? My hope is that one of the "good guys" here will stumble across it and let me know. The only one I have ever heard of being up for sale was the one in the recent Mastro auction but if I paid 11k for the lot just to get the one card, I'd be sleeping on the park bench tonight

Congrats! I am 3 years into the Wilson Franks set and have 90% in acceptable condition. The rest of the sets I collect are all rarer, I can't imagine ever finishing one!

BTW, the 1909 obaks are the only prewar cards I like enough to collect. I think they are just great cards.

Congrats, Bob. As someone else mentioned, onward to the T4s
