At this time Mr.Moraine (contrary to his belief) will not be joining our party anymore. This is not a board that is "open to all no matter what you say". If you are detrimental to the board you will leave. He has been escorted to the door..... regards

While I think banishment from the Board is a very serious action, there is no doubt in my mind that this action was entirely appropriate under the circumstances.

Although I'm not sure a thread should be devoted to this, it is an appropriate action. No person is bigger than the boards, and anytime the idiocy of a person is the story, there is a problem.

Since it affects all on the board I want to let folks know what is being done about it. There was no other way except this to let it be known. It also helps folks understand that it is a privilege to post on the board, not a right. Banning someone is the absolute last thing us moderators want to ever do, however when someone is bad for the board and we get bombarded with private emails, something needs to be done. regards

Admittedly, no, this is not the most cheerful subject matter in the world and yes, Leon and I would prefer to not have to post threads such as this one to the forum in the first place. However there have been several of you that have inquired about this situation the past few days and fortunately for us, one of the neat things about being a part of a forum like this is when a "newsworthy" event occurs (affecting either the forum itself or its population), we can easily keep the community abreast of what is going on so there is no uncertainty or confusion.

Since I've been out the last several days I don't know everything that has gone on. I am not against reinstating anyone at some point in the future. Adam will probably need to call me and have a chat about board policies and procedures though. Brian and I just want this to be a nice, clean, place to come and learn about vintage baseball cards. Neither he nor I hate anyone on the board and EVERYONE learns from experience(s). I hope Adam will make contact with me in the near future and we hash things out. regards

This board has been a tremendous resource for my collecting. The last thing I would want to do is shoot it out the door by posting inappropriate comments and making enemies.

It's tough enough finding the stuff we look for. We might as well have everyone possible to help in the process.

I just couldn't understand that guy. This board is probobly the best place online to learn about vintage cards which he claims he really enjoys but all he did was mock, irritate, and degrade everyone here. Too bad his grandpa didn't tell him to listen to people who know more than you, you might just learn something.

All I have to say is good luck selling the Adam J. Moraine collection years down the road. Let's just say that name will be remembered but not for good reasons. I for one will never buy anything with his name attached to it or from ebay user ID "pittman3045," his ebay user name.

Ugh...Adam, I remember that "Dummycrat" message and how it made me cringe that Mr.Moraine was anywhere near me on the political spectrum. I think his removal from the board is a "bipartisan" issue...LOL.

Let me add to the applause at this decision. Adam M. just seemed to wear his ignorance like a badge of honor and arrogantly dismissed the friendly advice offered by many on this board...arrogance and ignorance is not a combination that lends itself to a harmonious board.

Adam Moraine, VBC Member (March 5, 2005- July 31, 2005)

Quotes:

1) A disrespect for the lower grades:

"My personal opinion is that PSA 1's,2's,3's are not even worth the plastic holders they are slabbed in, much less the amount of money these "collectors" spend on them...have you guys have seen what these cards look like.(someone post me some scans of PSA 1,2,3)Would any of the major auction houses/auctions want them in there auctions?

"I will NEVER have a PSA 1, 2, or 3 in my collection. Hell, I do not even like graded cards anyway."

"T-206 COBB (RED.PORT) PSA 2 OR SGC 20. BEST REGARDS, ADAM J. MORAINE P.S. THOSE ATTENDING THE NATIONAL, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, KEEP ME IN MIND, IF YOU SHOULD COME ACROSS ONE."

"PLEASE guys, for the love of God and collecting keep an eye out for a T-206 (RED PORT.) Cobb. (FOR MY SAKE!) a PSA 2 or SCG 20 will do just fine. so will a creaseless/no paper loss PSA 1."

2) Is he or isn't he?

" Sorry Warshaw I did not go to law school, and I do make the deep, six-figures you make."

"I have a GREAT disposable income, as I still live at home with my grandmother, and have minimal bills. (I pay water, cable, ADT home security, groceries, property taxes) My grandparents have lived in the same home since 1950. The house is paid for. The house wii be mine when my grandmother passes, which means I will NEVER have to buy a house or pay a mortage. (the house has NEVER been mortaged) I work 40-45 hours a week, as well.Hence, how I can afford to make these purchases."

"I have bills to pay AND a daughter to raise. Could ANYONE on this board pay bills, raise a child, and STILL purchase HIGH END prewar cards IF ANY of you, only made $32,000 per year?

3) His goals

"I plan to SOMEDAY do the same as Barry Halper did. Collect/invest in premium cards/memorabilia/autographs. and then..... CHA-CHING .... CONSIGN, CONSIGN, CONSIGN!"

"WHEN MY COLLECTION GENERATES HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, WE WILL SEE WHO HAS THE LAST LAUGH, AS YOU WILL STILL BE WORKING FOR A LIVING. I WILL BE RETIRED, YOUNG, AND WEALTHY LIVING IN AN ESTATE IN GREENWICH, CT, ONE OF THE MOST AFFLUENT COMMUNITIES IN THE ENTIRE U.S."

4) About eBay

"I DO NOT use EBAY!"

"THE #1 REASON WHY I STAY AWAY FROM EBAY! AND DO NOT USE EBAY! CROOKS AND LOW-LIFES PASSING OFF SCARCE AND VALUABLE CARDS AS AUTHENTIC. SOME SMUCK (LIKE MYSELF), WHO HAS NEVER SEEN AN AUTHENTIC OLD JUDGE IN PERSON, WOULD HAVE PROBABLY BID ON THE DAMN THING AND GOTTEN SCREWED OUT OF SERIOUS $$$ IN THINKING THEY HAD HIT THE JACKPOT."

"I can STILL get vintage cards from reliable dealers, and EBAY which is one of the main reasons I joined this forum anyway."

5) On Respect

"In MY world, RESPECT is something that you EARN. It's NOT given. I DO NOT GIVE anyone respect. They have to EARN it!"

6) On Solid Ball Players who aren't worth a lot in the Price Guides

"No problem with Griffey Sr. Hell, he helped reproduce Ken Griffey, Jr. A FUTURE H.O.F. er"

"Other than Mclain, Colavito, and Foster I HAVE NOT heard of the other guys. Who were they? Why in the hell is Colavito being billed as a H.O.F er? What are his fees so high? McLain ONE F!@#$% CROWNING ACHIEVEMENT IN 1968. WTF guys. ALL of the autographs I have are ALL H.O.Fers or FUTURE H.O.F.ers.. NO ONE HIT WONDERS!"

"E.C.N. will probably suck. The baseball these no-namers will sign is probably worth more than there autographs."

7) His Forum legacy

"Hell, I have beaten "the HOBBY Gods'" Mr. Mint and Mastro both in the same thread? AND recorded the longest (bashed)thread this year to date. I have etched my legacy in forum stone. Will I be inducted in the forum H.O.F.?"

8) On being possibly banned from the VBC

"We are ALL board members by CHOICE. NOT by "nomination". Therefore, I CAN NOT be removed from this forum because of MY OPINIONS. IF that were the case we would not even have a Net54 forum."

Ah, very good news. My wife will be a little disappointed though. She always enjoyed reading his comments and laughing with me at the guy.

My favorite is still this classic excerpt from the big Des Moines Register expose:

"My No. 1 goal in life is to have a multimillion-dollar investment portfolio before the age of 50. Currently, my collection is worth more than $100,000. I do research on Internet auction sites and read the Beckett Almanac of Baseball Cards to keep abreast of current values....I prefer... the innocent days of the hobby, when baseball stars played for the love of the game and not the multimillion-dollar contracts."

Did you know? There are over 200 THOUSAND (!) people in the Des Moines metropolis.

He made that nice long argument on why low grade cards are worthless but I beat him out on a 1949 Bowman Feller psa1 a couple of weeks ago and he has lost twice on a low grade t206 Cobb portrait in the same time period. In fact the only thing he has won are a couple of "shiny" new Feller cards and some autograph pictures.

You also forgot to mention that he has made fun of;

male nurses
democrats
FDR
Bo Jackson
people with good office jobs
people who inherited money
people who have received cards from an older relative
people who collect low grade cards
baseball players who won't make the HOF (Denny McLain, ect...)

and basically everyone who collects for the love of collecting because they will not make any money when they sell their collection which is what everyone aspires to do in his mind. Thanks for enlightening me Sigmund Freud.

a few nights ago, he started harassing me over instant messenger, using the cute screen name "sexytexasbabe18f." accusing me of being KuntryBoy on the PSA boards, which im not. he threatened to kick my a** several times, endlessly called me vulgar names, and generally acted like an idiot. the guy seriously has some growing up to do

I know all about it....when someone resorts to expressions like "bl*w me" (in print, on this board) they are under terrible stress.

I don't care if Adam is a (technical) moron, or says stupid things every time he opens his mouth, has a huge chip on his shoulder, and badmouths half the board. I think Leon or Brian should talk with him, and cool him down, and exact some promises, and invite him back.

LORD, don't you remember Dr. Koos? One of his posts was only up for 5 minutes, but I happerned to read it (the one that resulted, FINALLY, in his removal from the board). I don't even think I'd be allowed to DISCUSS it here. Compared to Koos, Adam Moraine is a real nice guy, and a holy innocent. I have hard copy of a long post of Koos' in which he brags about his two cars (in detail), his body (in detail), his lifestyle (in detail--YUKKK!), his money--etc. You wouldn't believe what this guy thinks is pleasant...

I'm amazed that an ordinary human being could get booted.

like Koos, Adam wasn't an "ordinary human being". He might not have been AS contemptable as Koos (that would be an accomplishment), but regardless, he similarly seemed to have troll tendencies of just wanting to get into duke it out with people to keep his adrenelin going.

Adam had so much contempt for so many people here and for so many of the collecting goals of the people here, the obvious thought is "why do you even want to be here". He had an itchy trigger finger when it came to crass insults, and seemed to be lacking in basic manners. It made my head hurt to try to discern any consistency in his viewpoints (for example, he had contempt for people that have things "handed" to them, and then yet he lived rent free at his grandma's house which he was delighted would be his one day, and he seemed to see no inconsistency in that (as though, he's the only person in the world to ever deserve having something "handed" to him). Let alone the "I want to make alot of money of cards- CHA CHING!"- and then "I wish card collecting was like it was in the old days"). I don't see any benefit to the Board community for him being here.

And it's not that I think that everyone has to ADD to the board community per se to be allowed to stay here- many of us don't have the experience or the eye or the resources that some of the more experienced folks here to have. But an antagonistic streak bordering on hostility should be an appropriate reason to be banned, I think, and Adam had that in spades. And as far as his 'well being' (for anyone concerned about that), he can still learn about cards from this board by being a lurker.

Julie, I understand where you are coming from, but I don't think in this case that it would do any good. Simply put, his behavior has offended...pretty much the whole Board and coming back would only produce Forum friction. I have never in my entire life ever thought about telling another person to "b--- me". Even when I was like ten years old.

This place simply wasn't for him. Looking back at his posts as I did, he didn't seem to really have any interest in pre-war cards as far as collecting them goes and he spent a large majority of the time being dis-respectful and acting simply out of context to how people are supposed to act not only in this Forum, but society.

He talked more about sports memorabilia, autographs (he took more pride in his autograph collection than cards) and Baseball cards from the 1950's and 1960's than anything Pre-war. His goal is wealth and this is a collecting forum. He looked down at people who collected low-grade items and at this moment, well, is me the way prices are going.

DJ

Richard,

I hear you about moving on but the fact is Adam really annoyed or insulted many people and those people need to vent. I, along with many others did just that. I would imagine this thread will die soon and we can get back to the norm.

That is how I see it anyways.

there is a point to make here is that the board will not tolerate profane bashing of another member and those who risk this can be banned. There is a comfort to knowing these rediculous posts will not be here anymore. I emailed him with an offer on a nice red Cobb 10 bucks over what I paid for it.

Some that know me realize that I will help sometimes when I may not even want to sell an item, I just like to be remembered when it is my turn for a want/need. His email to me was that he lived with grandmaw and couldnt afford it , this was one day after he posted his red Cobb want, but yet he supposedly bids on 1 or a couple.

Dont waste my time if you cannot afford it at the time ,I only buy cards when i can afford them.

WHat may not interest you may interest others, the board is open for sharing these vintage cards hi end or low end and not for constant bashing or extreme ackowledgement such as the crisis that Mr. Moraine had.

A quick thanks to Leon and Brian, it was well deserved.

For thinking that Leon or Brian need to talk to him and straighten him out to get on the board. Why? He has been given enough leeway and his conduct is not needed here and they should not have to play parent here.

This board keeps evolving and I feel for the best. If it means some on rulies have to go so be it. Like Leon said it is a PRIVILEDGE to post on this board.

Looks like he has moved on.

http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=11&threadid=418615&STARTPAGE=4

I am now registered with this forum after my Net54 buddies had a conflict with my personal opinions. These opinions included graded cards, and lack luster autograph guests at The east coast National show. I am the REAL Adam J. Moraine. Though, I am VERY opinionated, I am a good person. PLEASE leave out the personal attacks brought on by Millionaires' card collecting forum, Net54. Where they are in "INVESTOR DENIAL". They claim are are "just collectors", and NOT "investors" yet if you log onto lewisbaseballcards.com(A Florida millionaire attorney) you will see an 1887 Old Judge Cap Anson. SGC 80. I simply stated this card was an investment, other claimed it was not. Based upon MY OPINIONS my access to Net54 forum was blocked. I also stated that in the long term, from an auction standpoint, that PSA 1,2, or 3's would not generate that much money, as opposed to a higher graded card. Once again, My OPINIONS were devalued. Then I get put down becuase I did not know who George Scott and Paul Blair were. I was born in 1980, and basically had been told that I did not have baseball knowledge, because I have not heard of a couple, no name, run of the mill common players, whose cards you can purchase for a nickle or less. All that I am asking is for the chance, for the members of this forum to get to know the REAL me. Instead of what you heard from certain individuals, who ASSUME they know the "real me", despite the fact, NO members of the Net54 forum has met myself in person. Although, I contribute to a ROTH IRA, I have NEVER lost big money in the stock market. In fact, thus far, I am up $200.00 from this time last year.

Best regards,

Adam J. Moraine

he implies that there's something wrong with being a millionaire ("millionaire's club" used in contempt), yet it's clear from his early posts that that's what he really aspires to. That bird's riddled with loathing: of others and somewhat of his self. ['millionaire's club'- Lord knows there are probably few of us fit that description but as to those that do- who gives a doody? Does that mean we've got nothing in common? What we have in common is love for the beautiful work on these old pieces of cardboard and the thrill of the hunt- whether you can afford the top shelf stuff or not!

And if you DO want a really nice copy of a card, Wise Adam knows that it can ONLY mean you are interested in it's financial value?! "No- I DON'T CARE that you TELL ME it's not about the Cha-Ching- I CAN READ YOUR MIND AND I KNOW THAT THAT'S WHAT IT'S ABOUT!!" Talk about projection!

If I read an introductory post by someone who leads off as being that defensive, I'd be VERY leary. It's like someone who comes in to interview for a job and when asked why he's had 3 jobs in 4 months, he says it's because all his previous bosses have been @#$&*#$@!!

[P.S. Why does he imagine anyone would care about his stock market holdings?! And if they were "I'm up $200 from last year" ain't much to brag on.]

It always bugs me when others assume that certain collectors are investors simply because they have the bucks to afford the best of the best...some people lack the ability to admire these collections and can only look on them with envy or jealousy.

By the way, I was born in the same year as Adam was (1980)...I think I knew who Paul Blair was when I was 10 or 11. For years I have read just about anything I could get my hands on about baseball history...a shame that Adam would disparage parts of it that he didn't know about rather than taking the time to learn something.

I can remember back when I was one of the youngest posters on John Spencer's "original" board. Glad to see people younger than myself collecting vintage! Though, the youngest vintage collector I know is still my 2 year old daughter (she loves to collect cards of players with gloves and of Ty Cobb).

I think I never really bashed the guy because I felt sorry for him. Case in point: the comment about the 200 buck stock market gain in a year. It's sad in a way. How can you hate the guy when he's just so young and clueless and pathetic? No doubt he deserved to be banned..but I don't think he's nasty; just sad and clueless.

I have absolutely no compassion for Adam. He is not "young". He is a 24 year old arrogant, self absorbed adult who if he hasn't grown up yet has little chance to do so. I am one who has earned every dollar I have. Most goes to supporting my family, and what little is left over a portion goes to cards. Good riddence to bad rubbish. The board is FAR better off without him.

Thank you Leon for handling this with dignity. I might not have been so tolerant......obviously

"I don't care if Adam is a (technical) moron, or says stupid things every time he opens his mouth, has a huge chip on his shoulder, and badmouths half the board. I think Leon or Brian should talk with him, and cool him down, and exact some promises, and invite him back."

Julie,

Agreed.

I believe that the focus of this forum is baseball cards. It is not a venue for helping young adults to grow up.

Thankfully we have several of Adam Moraine's age represented here, and they respect themselves and others. Additionally, we have others in their twenties located in far away places who certainly would like to take a break and speak with us for a while, but cannot.

I agree that Mr. Moraine has the potential to be a valued contributor to this forum at some time, but that time is not yet imo.

Let's devote some time to other stuff; bashing this loon is just too easy.

I agree. I am going to go ahead and lock this thread. We have all had time to give our opinion. I would love to try to help Adam if he wants it. Until then he can just lurk if he wants to. I don't think Adam is a bad person just a little confused, and a little young, and needs some more experience(s) to learn from. On the CU board he is taking the same ribbing. If he contacts me, and we talk in person (on the phone) about life in general and board etiquette, then I think he could still be a valued board member. I know I have made more than my share of mistakes but the older I get the fewer of these type I make. (*don't get me wrong I still make some, just not quite as many). Actually I see a lot of me in Adam, although from about 20 years ago. Let's get back to talking about cards.....One last point though. Adam is not the first one to say that it is his "right" to post on this board. That is far from the truth. Think of this board as your drivers license. It's real easy to keep it, but if you mess up too much, it can be taken away just like the board privileges can. regards all
