Default 1913 Fenway Brewery Cards

Posted By: Greg Theberge

Does anyone have any information or could someone direct me towards information regarding the 1913 Fenway Brewery Cards? How many were produced? Estimated values?

Thanks in advance,
Greg Theberge

My understanding is that only the Frank Baker card has the Fenway overprint. It was sold in a box with the rest of the cards from the set, but none of the other cards in the set mention Fenway. The box might, but I'm not sure.

The Fenway Breweries cards are actually a variation of the WG6 Tom Barker game cards. The only difference is the box, scorecard and the card of Homerun Baker will say Fenway Breweries on it. Only the Baker card says Fenway, the other 42 player cards are exactly the same as the normal WG6 Tom Barker cards.

Looks like Paul beat me to it

Default 1913 Fenway Brewery Cards

Thanks for the information guys. A friend actually has the Baker card, I was wondering if any of the other cards in the set had the Fenway Breweries printed on them. I've been collecting pre-prohibition brewery advertising from the state of RI for thirty years and have just started out collecting pre-prohibition Red Sox memorabilia. An interesting aside is that they advertised the Fenway brewery (No relationship at all to Fenway Park if I'm not mistaken) in at least the 1915 World Series Program which I was very fortunate to just pick up from Fred Okrend.

All the best,
Greg

Nothing like a good 6+ year bump on an old thread, right??

So, any time I have seen the Frank Home Run Baker cards with the Fenway Breweries overprint in the past, it has had the Tom Barker back. As those have said in this thread from a while ago, it was believed the Baker card with the Fenway overprint was a variant of the Tom Barker set.

However, I just picked up the pictured Baker card here, with the Fenway Breweries overprint on the front, but it has a National Game back instead of the Tom Barker back.

Are there other copies of this card known with the National Game back instead of the Tom Barker back? What does this mean as to the theories of this card, if the Fenway overprint exists on either the Tom Barker or the National Game backs?

Thanks,
Scott

Interesting. Never seen one of those before either. For comparison here are it's brethren items....Interestingly I have always thought this box was from Tom Barker cards (even though it has "National" on it). I think there have been some full box sets found though so maybe a bit more research will provide some answers.

Thanks Leon - interesting info. I would love to hear from anyone else with the Baker Fenway cards, to see if any other National Game backs are known, or if all others have the Tom Barker backs.

Geez, if this is a one of a kind back, it's too bad the back doesn't have a slightly imperceptible different ink color, so it could be a $30K card!
