It is live ink. The legitimacy of the Mantle is my real concern.

Default Hall of fame game

The Yankees were supposed to play the Braves in the 1962 Hall of Fame Game in Cooperstown. It got rained out. This could have been the opportunity for getting this signed.

The Live Ink looks good. My only issue with it, is Mantle's. I'm not saying it's bad, but Mantle wasn't signing his name like that anymore, in 1962. Here's a reference to what his signature was looking like in 1962. The style of signature in your original post, tracks more with his mid 50's style.

That is a likely scenario that I was not aware of but makes good sense. Thanks for the info.

I certainly agree with you. I did submit this to JSA for authentication at a show about 6 weeks ago and got their LOA in the mail yesterday and their conclusion was that all autos were good except Mantle which they labeled "clubhouse."

The Maris also looked strange to me but it passed.

Overall, a neat item but would have been much better if Mantle actually signed it.

Thanks for the input.

It actually tracks somewhat decently with his mid 50's signature. I would assume who was ever signing his clubhouse auto, modeled theirs after that, not expecting that it would change.

SCD did a great article about Mantles signature through the years

I'm really surprised Maris passed. The "M" is beyond atypical, and it looks like he signed the "R" on top of a check mark.

Don't know enough about these signatures to weigh in on them, but I do have a bit of a logic question.

If the whole team was signing this page, but Mantle is a clubhouse/secretarial, why is his name first? That seems odd to me. You could say it was always assumed that his name had to be first, so they left the premier spot for him there, but really? Wouldn't the clubhouse 'signer' have just scribbled on the right side later like the other guys (Maris, Berra, etc.) did after the left side was crowded up??

Or was that the way these types of things played out? The secretarialist (made up word) would sign it first and then the real players would John Hancock it?

Not to beat a dead horse, if you're talking about autographs circa 1961, the Mantle looks like a clubhouse, but so does the Maris. The Maris looks more like a pre 1959 sig to me. I just looked at a 1961 event program that had several members (no mantle) and the Maris was more like the signature we all know. Take it for what it's worth.

Maris is listed as a legitimate signature on the LOA. That is all I am going on.
