Default Marilyn Monroe Collectibles

When it comes to Americana collectibles, Monroe ranks up there. Whether it's a vintage calendar, magazine, movie poster, TYPE 1 photograph, figurine, etc., there is always huge demand. Now I love vintage comic books, and because she doesn't have any, the next best thing are magazines. I know, her Playboy (first issue - Dec 1953) is the most sought-after, but it just doesn't do it for me - surprised? She was already a mega star when it came out and many people saved theirs. This is why there is an abundance of them online. She started appearing on covers as early as 1946 (her rookie year ) and these are the ones I focus on at the moment. The holy grail, to me anyways, is the Douglas Airview, her first cover appearance. This magazine is really tough to find in any shape. It was only given to employees of the Douglas Aircraft Company, and so it was not available to the public. Anyhow, I managed to track one down at a pawn shop. Now these lunatics actually encapsulated this magazine - no joke! They got two pieces of plastic, glued the left-right and bottom edges, and then just slid it in from the top. Once the magazine was inside, it was sealed at the top using glue. They did a horrible job, and when I got it, the bottom portion of the magazine was stuck in the glue! It was a complete nightmare! However, I managed to remove it with only minimal damage to the last two pages of the book. It took me over three hours to do this! If I had just pulled the magazine, then it would have gotten destroyed. Here are some pictures below for your viewing pleasure:

Front cover

The front and back covers were already seperated from the rest of the book prior to it being encapsulated. I did not do this myself!

A young Norma Jean is seen here having a good time in the DC-6!

This page caught my attention - why? Because the cartoon shows an old man committing workplace/sexual assault on a young woman and makes no mention of it! It's no wonder that majority of women chose to stay home back then!

If you have any MM collectibles that you'd like to share, then post away!
