Default Yet another no hitter

Corey Kluber just threw a no hitter for the Yankees. It's amazing to me how many no hitters are being thrown these days.

Most no-hitters in a season: 8 (1884). Most no-hitters in a season in the modern era: 7 (1990, 1991, 2012). No-hitters through May 19 of 2021 season: 6 (plus one 7-innging unofficial no-hitter).

There were also 7 no hitters in 2015, so 3 different years with 7 no hitters in the decade ending this year.

And, in case anybody is wondering, there were also 4 in a month in June 1990, including 2 on one day (Fernando & Dave Stewart).

In 1917 there were 5 no hitters in 23 days between April 14 and May 6.

I think it's slightly weird that the 6 official no-hitters have been thrown against 3 teams.

Also, all 7 no-hitters this year have been thrown with a DH in the lineup.

I've had a couple of net54 board members reach out to me already.
Modern hitters are no longer worried about strikeouts or batting average.
Pitchers are focused on improved spin rate, high strikes and strikeouts.

It's a combination of factors that leads to more swings and misses.
A bit like dumping gasoline on a fire, IMHO

Yup! It's a rare bird that bucks this trend, unfortunately.
The guys that can hit get massive contracts...

When it's either a homerun or a strikeout, this is the result.
More watered down "No-Hitters" to come!

Baseball strategy is fluid and I think we will see a couple of teams find success by building around the slap hitting, good fielding teams that haven't really been in vogue since the Royals won a world series. I'll be glad to see it.

The Reds disaster postseason 2020 was gawd awful to watch. Base running blunders, swinging for the fences, etc. Geez, if they just try to bunt a guy over they could score a run and win the games.

That's all I think this year too. Baseball is gawd awful to watch.

You know who I want to see again: Rafael Furcal.

There are only 21 guys hitting .300 or better, and 5 are on the Astros. Couple teams have 2.

So that means more then half the 30 MLB teams don't even have a .300 hitter in their starting lineup.

Hell, where can we sign up?
I need a few extra million...
Oh, that's right, these pitchers throw 100 MPH cheese up in the zone with high spin rate.
Never mind, I'm out

Just close your eyes and swing up, you'll get lucky every once in a while

Nobody on the Dodgers is batting over .300.

Mookie is at .259
