BTW, the whales haven't even gotten their catalogs yet, so it's way too early to comment on prices.

Now if you pay for my bidding advice and appraisal services, you're home free.

Just be warned, I grew up in Wisconsin and will probably have you bidding on Cecil Cooper and Gorman Thomas lots.

I've had my preliminary bids in for a little while now... now waiting another entire month until the auction ends is going to suck.

Yeah I will not bid until the last couple of minutes I see no point in doing so. I know I will lose some and win some but yeah that is the game right.

Do not pay attention to the pre-auction REA estimates. Double them and then you are starting to get in the ballpark. This two month window we are in is Christmas for Pre-War collectors.

Read the rules and fully understand them before you commit to that game plan.

It would do you good to research the past years auctions and look at reserves/estimates on the lots and what they actually sold for.

bn2cardz's

I will have to read them.

Do you have the link to their rules trying to find them and can't seem to locate them on their website?

I can stand with the best of them if I really have to but will not go crazy and over bid like no tomorrow...no need to waste cash just to prove a point. I just purchased a 52 Topps Mantle rookie in PSA 4 for 12950$ so yes I can for sure stand my own with the whales.

Here are a few cards I have added to my collection the 1887 old Judge my brother was the buyer and we decided to split the cost 50/50:

Links:

I actually looked at this auction house. never used it before, but theres several items i like to own.

You guys keep bidding on the 1st issue of Playboy...while i might sneak and grab a lot.

BTW- Heritage is running..and has nice stuff there...but REA has much better items for my goal searching needs, tho HA does have several low-end 52 #311 RC's for bid.
HECK, i placed bids everywhere...SHHH!! dont tell the old lady...She wont know.

Mine is way nicer than 95% to 99% of them there so I am OK with the price and VERY happy with my Mantle rookie.

I went to that site before buying and concluded that mine was worth the price it is as nice a graded 4 comes. And have have had 2 serious offers from other people already for it for more than I paid for it so I did good!!!

Like everone else has probably already posted. Do not get excited about the starting bids, they will go real high.

I understand I have bid on some very rare coins in the past at auctions and I realize starting prices mean nothing in the end. Win some lose some at least we get another day to put up a fight.

Was on Ebay only a few minutes then I purchased it I was lucky to find it at that specific time (was just checking a few minutes before and it was not there then about a hour later it showed up on Ebay). I check Ebay ALL the time and every couple of hours for cards I want for my collection....the only way to get those cards we want before others do.

Yes I am a dedicated collector like I said I only know a little on pre war cards but a lot on post war cards.

Are we still talking about the '52 Topps, or are you referring to a '51 Bowman?

!
You do know this isn't his Rookie right? This can be considered his Topps rookie (first Topps card), but he had Bowman card in 1951 that would be his true rookie.

Isn't this the same Mantle you posted a link to on the prewar side? I could swear you stated on that thread that you did not end up purchasing the card...

Yes I am aware of his 51 Bowman card I know it is his true rookie but the 52 Topps is way way more in demand with collectors. I will bu ya 51 Bowman one day.

Did not want people to know until I had received it threw the mail. To prevent others from trying to get the card outside of Ebay threw the seller...this has happened in the past to me a few times....I know how to protect myself from this now.

Here are a few cards I have added to my collection the 1887 old Judge my brother was the buyer and we decided to split the cost 50/50:

Glad to hear that it arrived safely. Can you post a picture of it? The images in the auction have a watermark at the bottom which I find distracting.

That is fine, you kept referring to it being his RC and just wanted to make sure you knew that it wasn't really his rookie. It really just depends on what you wanted. If you want his most desired card you got it. If you want his rookie you don't have it.

Oh. OK. I see.

Well, whenever you can get around to it, please do share with the group.

And have a tremendous day.
