Default R.I.P. Charlie Trippi

Football Hall of Famer Charlie Trippi died yesterday. He was 100 years young. Jim Thorpe said that Charlie Trippi was the best football player he ever saw. High praise indeed.

That aint astroturf he's wearing on his uniform.

I've got the same Goal Line card autographed by him, same spot, same pen. Didn't know much about him, but that IS pretty high praise.

RIP Mr. Trippi

And a pretty fair baseball player, too. After graduating from UGA, he signed with the Atlanta Crackers in 1947. In 106 games as a 1B-OF, his .334 BA led all of his teammates with at least 125 at-bats. That was Charley's only season in pro ball, as he decided to follow other pursuits.
