I don't watch the whole Pawn Star episodes, but one of my very best friends is (was) their book expert. Her name is Rebecca and she was an employee at Bauman Rare Books at their Vegas store. She ultimately moved back East to run the whole biz, and is now doing her own thing in DC.

Quite possibly the smartest person I have ever met. Genuinely nice and knows her stuff. They'd tell her the title of the book they have, and that was pretty much it.

I'll try to find her segments when I can. Otherwise, the show (and shows like that) didn't do much for me.

Yeah, he's in the business of making money but is there no decency, morals and values left in the world where the strong don't take advantage of the weak?

Have you watched American or CDN Pickers before? Ever seen where a seller asks a certain amount but the buyers offer/pay more because they know the seller didn't know what he had nor the real value of it? That is what we are talking about. Rick, nor is Pawn Stars hurting by any stretch of the imagination, and imo, their popularity, which equals more money, would increase 10 fold if they did this.
Hey Dale, I usually agree with your posts, but I think the exact opposite of what you're saying is the actual reality in this scenario.

First, can you give one example where Rick lies or misrepresents an item as something it isn't to get a better price? Even one example? I have never seen that on the show. Never.
I can show endless examples though where Rick pays more than the seller requested after the "expert" valued the item higher.

And using rhetoric like Rick being the "strong" and any random seller as the "weak" borders on comical, especially when I have never seen one episode where a person was selling because they were desperate for food or to pay a badly needed medical bill. The most common thing people say they will spend the money on if a deal is made, is going on a trip. These hardly sound like those qualifying as the "weak".

NO ONE can ever claim to be robbed or ripped off if they are offered a certain amount, and they WILLINGLY accept it. The only just argument anyone can counter with, would be if Rick lies and misrepresents an item, otherwise, it's on the seller.

Can you honestly say Dale that in this day and age of endless information available via the internet, that someone can make a legitimate claim and excuse of being completely and utterly ignorant on any topic??
If they are, that is on them and not others.... personal responsibility my friend.

I have also seen some episodes where they offer more than the seller was asking. It's refreshing.

But I don't feel sorry for the sellers. When the "expert" comes in and says their item would fetch "X dollars" if they put it up for auction and then Rick offers them 1/2 of that - it's on the seller to not walk out and take his item to an auction.

As Nancy Reagan said, "just say no."

Liked her segments as well. She was one of the experts who debunked the Shoeless Joe autograph mentioned in the "Time Pawn Stars lost money" article linked above.

Larry, I was mistaken. My apologies. I removed the name. I thought the set on the PSA set registry that is now Robert Edward Auctions Spring 2018 was yours or your brother's. I couldn't remember off-hand though.

I did not say that. I simply said it irks me when Rick offers a price that is ridiculously low compared to the true value of the item.

I understand fully what you are also saying, people need to educate themselves better, but at the same time, I think a little leeway/latitude should be exhibited with Rick at times when he must know some have no clue what they actually have nor the true value of it. I would assume some of these sellers don't even have a computer nor where to look if they did? Not everyone is the same.

I don't watch the show religiously by any stretch so I can't speak on much more than what I have personally seen but hopefully, like you said, there are times when he actually pays more.
