An eerie coincidence I think! As a side note, whenever I hear or see Spahn's name, I think of his wind up, along with the poem:
First we'll use Spahn then we'll use Sain Then an off day followed by rain Back will come Spahn followed by Sain And followed we hope by two days of rain.

In Underworld which of course starts with the Thomson homer, Don Delillo does a riff on the number 13 (Branca's jersey) that's something like that but I can't remember the details other than that the Dodgers blew a 13 game lead, the date 10/3 added to 13, and there was more.
