Who is on this team that made this post so special? Or what made it so special?

My opinion is that it went for that much because of the image not the players. I have never seen a postcard like this and it is very cool looking with all the players pictured on baseballs....

Post cards are real hit and miss when it comes to price. There was a famous photographer from my town in the early part of the century and his photos were used on many post cards. He seemed to have an interest in baseball as many of his post cards feature baseball games from around the Midwest. i've seen these cards go from $10 to $500 with no rhyme or reason that I figure out as to why certain ones sell cheap and others command huge prices.

My place is full of valuable, worthless junk.

The Watsonville Pippins were a professional team from California. That, and the odd nature of the photo were the reason - there are lots of collectors of California pro team photos, and this is a tough one to find. The collectors who bid on this knew what they were doing.

Pippins are a type of apple - those are apples that the player images are superimposed on.

I guess I will be staying away from California postcards. Thanks for the tips. I think I'll stay with items like this.

Joe - That price seems like a steal for that team card. Was it because its an easy one to find or that the seller had it listed in the autograph section?...jay

Thank you. I thought so too. I think it was because he seperated post and card in the title. If you do a search for that you get alot of post cereal cards. I wasnt around to snipe at it as I was playing poker that night and I did lose out on 2 others similar to this. This 1 may be a bit more common, but a nice find at that price. Out
