Bad dealer warning

I do not like to post stuff like this but occasionally I run into a bad situation and I don't want others to get caught in a similar bind.

I have recently been cheated on a deal by a dealer of boxing cards and memorabilia and I wanted to warn you about him, particularly those of you who are thinking of getting into Old Judge boxing cards (I know there are some of you out there), because he is listing a number of bad items on ebay.

I recently saw this dealer list three OJ boxers with images that looked like they'd been cropped too closely. I asked him if the cards were trimmed, he said two of them were, but he did not list that information in his listings. I then purchased a very rare silk from him based on our prior dealings and his statement that the silk measured 5 x 8, which is correct. When I got it I found that the silk measures 4.5 x 6 and had been trimmed down on all sides. The frame it was in obscured the trim job so I could not spot it in the images I saw and of course the listing made no reference to it. I have since contacted the dealer three times to arrange a refund; he is ducking my communications and not responding. If I do not hear from him shortly, I will be taking legal action against him.

The dealer is Steve Tritle from Pennsylvania and goes by the ebay name "mgboxer". My advice is to stay far, far away from his offerings.

I had a similar experience not to long ago. I bought a Mayo boxer described as near mint and also paid $5 shipping. What I got was a Mayo Boxer with glue and scrap book remnants on the back and shipped in a 39 cent stamped envelope. I won't be buying from him again!

I too just paid $5 for shipping. I got four cards in new toploaders, all placed in a big new top loader, put in a bubble envelope, wrapped with extra bubble wrap, put into a box, sent priority mail for $4.55 + delivery confirmation cost him extra.

The seller was Ryan Christoff, and this was my first dealing with him.

Edited to add: this is OT. CubanBaseballCards.Com is not a bad dealer - just the opposite.

Oh, I forgot to add: I got the cards within three days of the auction close, before he could have received payment.

After multiple emails, the last one being a legal demand letter, the seller offered to refund $200, then offered a full refund less the ebay final value fees. I pointed out that the final value fees are fully refunded if ebay is informed of a return and demanded that the final fees be refunded too. We will see.

But really, Julie has been our all star left fielder for so many seasons, that she is a shoe infor the inaugral balloting for the Net54 HOF. And actually I could never fill her spikes. Heck, she played a really deep left field.

Anyway, I am not convinced that she is ready to hang 'em up yet; she may be back next season.

I am awaiting a check for the refund. Meanwhile, he has relisted the trimmed cabinet with the correct measurement but not listed that the item is trimmed. In fact he calls it "complete". Stay away from this loser. Here is the item:

Could either of you clarify your somewhat "inside baseball" posts for some of us "newer members.

I think the bottom line was meant to be that Ryan is a great seller. Do I have it right?

Yes, you do. Ryan sells primarilly cards of players from the Negro Leagues and based on my experience, he treats people with class.

For example, in addition to the aspects of my initial purchase described above, Ryan was also involved in my splitting another bidders auction. This split included cards and cash. Ryan managed the entire transaction, adjusted the finances and made sure each of us got the cards which we agreed on.

Maybe every auctioneer behaves similarly. They should.
