Default shield postcard help

Posted By: mike peich

I recently acquired my first "shield" postcard and I would like to get more information about the card. I have read that it is an uncatalogued pc, but have also been told that it is listed in SCBC. If anyone has information about the card, including a checklist, I would appreciate knowing more. Thank you.
Mike

Mike - they are on page 79 of the '04 SCBC. I thought the issuer was known, but apparently not.

Default shield postcard help

These cards are said to have been issued by the Crose Photo Company. Reference to this can be found in JL Mashburn's Sports Postcard Price Guide (published by
Colonial House).

Some Internet searching indicates the Crose Photo
Company identified themselves around 1909 or so, in a Library of Congress filing, as being based in Gary, Indiana.

References to-date (and related postmarks) have always indicated 1908 or 1909 as year of issuance. However, I recently read an interesting email from someone doing research on the cards who thinks they might have been issued earlier in 1906.

According to the email I read, some of the players who he been found on the cards (White Sox) were traded at the end of the 1906 season and were no longer playing for the White Sox in '08.

I hope this helps...
