About a month ago I had some questions on how to best get my money back after a deadbeat seller never sent the card after I paid. I went through Ebay and my credit card company to investigate this, and Ebay agree's the seller is at fault but couldn't collect my money for me. I have tried to call the seller, but the line is disconnected (big surprise), and he doesn't respond to emails. I am fairly certain my cc company will reimburse my account, but I want to nail this prick to the wall if at all possible. Who would I contact to file charges against him. I realize nothing may come of it, but if I can create even a skosh of annoyance in his life it would make me feel better. Here's the auction in question.

Card is real, 758 Pos. Feedback at 100% Pos., That would get me to bid as well even with a private auction. Very unusual he would just toss that feedback all away, and take off. Good thing it wasnt a $1000 card Good luck, hope you get him good. Frank

Ebay's Safeharbor also insures each auction for up to $200. Safeharbor charges $25 for the investigation and transaction fee. In this case, it may not be worth it. However, if the goal is to nail this guy, you may consider a fraud complaint with Safeharbor. I believe if Safeharbor determines that there in fact was fraud on the part of the seller, ebay would suspend the seller indefinitely.

This guy apparently decided to take advantage of that great feedback and go for one final huge rip-off: selling Library of Congress web-site images as if he owned the cards, then running for the border.

I have heard of this going on more and more on ebay - the sellers build up a huge feedback over a period of time, then go for the big kill and disappear.

I got popped for $175 from a similar scam. 200+ FB all positive and listed 2 pages of vintage stuff and nailed a bunch of us! Unfortunately for me, I closed him down on a beat up T206 O'Hara and sent a MO. It was my own fault buying w/o protection so that was my risk I guess. Imagine that, California again! That state just doesn't like me! Dan. Nothing against you Frank, you are a bright shiney spot for me in the state.

I have visited the loc site many times to check out o.j. images and also to get very clear images of real cards, for comparison to scans on ebay. Almost all of the loc cards were scanned the same way and they are fairly easy to spot on ebay if you are used to looking at them. I strongly recommend that anyone who wants to bid on a questionable o.j. on ebay first check the loc site and look for distinguishing marks to compare.

One of the best things about this board is the contributor's caveats. How many times have I read Scott and others loudly shout "DON'T BUY CARDS IN PRIVATE AUCTIONS"? I have experienced non-bidder remorse when I have let beautiful cards slide, but have discovered several were bogus.
Ebay is no help. The only way to go on the Pattee is to contact your Postmaster and get the Feds involved. Tell the Feds the guy is a card carrying member of the Democratic Party and they'll move it up the list
