Well, you asked for it. Not Pre-War, and not even the right sport.

1978 Topps Gary Green Rookie Card

4 time Pro-Bowler and 5 time All-Pro. Member of the Kansas City Chiefs Ring of Honor and Chiefs Hall of Fame.

No, I don't have any special attachment to Gary Green or the Kansas City Chiefs.

Several years ago my dad was renovating his kitchen with my mom (the house I grew up in).

He pulled out the kitchen radiator and tucked behind the panel was this lone football card from my childhood. I used to practice "Knockdowns" against that radiator as a child.

Not to brag, but I was the "King" of knockdowns and all the other various sports card games we played in Elementary and Middle school. To the point we'd get to a certain point in the school year, and nobody would want to play against me anymore. I'd take everybody else's cards, and was probably waaaaaay too competitive about it. I'd win hundreds of cards and add them to my pile every week. I was kind of an as#hole about it to be honest.

I know, it's like saying I was the fastest kid in the 4th grade at my small town school. It doesn't really mean anything.

If only I was as good at actual baseball as I was at throwing a card straight out of a wax pack, at another card set up against a wall, I might have made something of myself.

Anyways, this is the one lone card I have left from those days of trading card dominance. Found in a kitchen radiator about 40 years after my card throwing prime. My dad remembered me practicing against that very radiator enough to call me in excitement as soon as he found it tucked back there.

I've been carrying it around in my wallet ever since, just like Bob Costas carries around his Mickey Mantle card in his. As you can see, my wallet has taken much more of a toll on the card then a game of knockdowns and decades of radiator dirt and grime took on it.

These all make me happy! I'll be even happier when I can add the one missing...Cobb Green. That's my goal in 2023...get me a Cobb Green in Poor to Fair condition. Of all of these, the Matty makes me the happiest.

This my favorite card. It makes me smile when I see it. A while back, someone on the forum posted a card that printed on the back of it. Said the player run's like a sissy. The pose for this player fits that description.

Wallace Hogan

I borrowed this scan of a card someone else on the form had in their collection. It really makes me smile too.

Well, definitely not Drugged Earwig for me.

But a few that took me a long time to hunt down make me smile the biggest every time I see them.

Call me odd, but the fact that this Cracker Jack card is permanently attached to the 3/4" wooden plaque just makes me smile, and I love that the back text of the card has been copied onto the back of the plaque.

Not a card per se but interesting. Some here will be familiar with a fairly scarce but widely seen "Chicago White Sox at Royal Gorge" postcard. It's a colorized view of all the players outside their train along a famous river gorge and bridge with Big Ed Walsh and etc. They were on their way west for spring training. Bunch of people here had a lot of fun about a decade ago when I posted mine and asked folks to ID some of the players. A wild month ensued with people intent on IDing every single player! Fun.

Anyway: this inspired me to find and purchase--at a state railway archive--an original black and white photo from the same shoot in a slightly different spot. One of a kind. Here it is. Feel free to ID players!

Because of their bold colors I can look at these every day. I would love to pick up about a dozen (or 1) more if anyone has any?

Sure I played, did you think I was born age 70 sitting in a dugout trying to manage guys like you? — Casey Stengel to Mickey Mantle. Went to plenty of Yankee games back in the 'fifties. Casey could have been talking to me. Never pictured him as a young guy. This T210-6 elicits the best memories.

Red Horner, Reg Hamilton and Bucko McDonald celebrating their semifinal victory in 1939 over the Red Wings. They look like they just stormed Vimy Ridge. Their happiness is infectious. Alas I'm still waiting for the Leafs to win the Cup.

Who wouldn't want to be this guy?

Honus Wagner 1909-13 M101-2 Sporting News Supplements. Mesmerizing card and PSA POP of only 5.

Significantly more rare than Wagner's T206 portrait card, this 8x10 paper supplement is a playing days card and early appearance by an immensely popular player, whom was among the 1st MLB HOF Inductee class from 1936, along with Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, and Christy Mathewson.

It’s possible that a lot of them just haven’t been graded yet…though i sure hope it’s rare!

Love this image also, and Paul is absolutely right, the PSA pop reports for graded M101-2s is absolutely not representative of what is out there. Most all M101-2 supplement images are fantastic and somewhat unique. PSA only starting grading these in the last couple of years apparently. And because of the size/fragility, and lack of interest by TPGs grading them previously, most serious M101-2 Sporting New Supplement collectors I've met go for these in raw shape/form.

Beckett used to be the only major TPG I am aware of that would grade these over the years. However, their graded holders for these are huge and hard to store/handle, and don't make the Supplements look that great. And to my knowledge, SGC still doesn't grade them.

My 1912 La Azora Cigars Fielding Ty Cobb is the rarest Cobb I own. Only 7 have been graded. Pretty sure Lichtman owns 3 of them. He was nice to let me get one of his.

About time this thread was brought back. And with the understanding that it probably isn't wise to stick out the neck too far, awhile back I was able to snag a 1951 Bowman Paul Richards card by the ears.

Didn’t get much better as a kid than a signed Rickey Henderson card and a pair of his trademark lime green Mizuno batting gloves!

And working the happy colorful orange E93 theme as Pete did with his Matty, here is an orange E93 of Tinker.

Exhibitman:

This card isn't die-cut but I ran across the image and decided to put it up because it always makes me wonder "why was Jack Dempsey punching a blind guy?"

[/QUOTE]

I think that's Caine from John Wick 4. Dempsey better watch out.

Always loved The Beatles, ever since my dad introduced them to me when I was 11 (saw A Hard Day's Night). So when this set came out in 1993 when I was in high school, I was all over it. It's actually the only set I have ever put together 😀

Sports card wise it's the Ryan. Always wanted this card as a kid but could never afford it. It was the very first card I picked up after a long hiatus from the hobby, and the rest is history.

It hurt that I had to sell a signed 54B Ted last year, but I still have this Kreindler color study.

Chuck conners. O’boy!
My dad watches Western everyday
I sit and watch Rifleman
And Rawhide and etc

What makes me happy is when I open the safe
And pull out cards I not seen in months
The 52 mick was my grail card
But also love the Paige rc
Nowadays it’s my unc big head collection

Pretty good, but I would be more impressed if he had been able to pull off walking 2 miles backward in the snow.

If Mr. Weston had been 72 or older when he walked 3600 miles in 78 days, yes, I would be impressed. But alas he was only 71 years old.
