Default Evolution of a collection

As collectors we never quite know what direction our collecting passions might take us. Sometimes we have a plan of action, and sometimes the cards just find us.

When I started my collection, I was focused on collecting "type" cards for 7 Major League players: Roger Bresnahan, George Gibson, Red Kleinow, Johnny Kling, Chief Meyers, Gabby Street, and Ira Thomas.

Never thought much about Minor League cards or Minor League players.

Then one day I read this thread, "Take a penny, leave a penny" which was started by Ben Fisher on August 18, 2004.

http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...+Leave+a+Penny

Well to make a long story shorter, I grabbed my first T210 Old Mill Joseph Laughlin, and left a dublicate Ira Thomas P2 Pin as part of the "take a penny , leave a penny" game. I really loved the card left by lurker Dave Whipple.

I knew that the T210 Old Mill set was loaded with catchers...too many for me to chase, so I decided to focus my attention on T210s that had catchers wearing chest protectors. I fun little project to keep my interest up when my main focus had stalled.

Fast forward to October 2011 when board member Jeremy offered me the "Crown Jewel" of my collection, a Joseph Laughlin Old Mill Cabinet. How could I pass it up, since I already had the beautiful T210 companion piece already.

So I added the most expensive card I have ever bought to go with the "free" T210.

Every few years I would pick up one here and one there. But thanks to Jason on the board, I have added another three more over the last month.

Thanks to those that have helped...I need just the T210-6 Thoss to finish the run.

Special thanks to Ben Fisher for starting the "Take a penny, leave a penny thread," and to lurker Dave Whipple for starting me on the Old Mill journey.

Here are some scans of these great cards.

Munson / Norfolk looks a lot like the dad in Field of Dreams.

Patrick, this is an interesting saga. BTW, who is the mystery 7th MLB player that you initially collected type cards of?
